anyone wanna come out and do them for me??
I'll pay CA$H and supply all the tools and all the beer you can drink! :)

I watched silent do a set once, theres no need to remove any of the stuff from the grooves if they come apart decently.

I also found that putting it in the freezer works great at removing the sealent, espesially on the lens part

:huh?: :huh?: :huh?: PITA? This was the first mod i did to my Alero and only took 30 minutes per assembly. A little messy, but definitely not the hardest mod.

I think the hardest part about it is actually taking the assembly off the car...

I haven't done it yet because I want to have a whole warm day so I can paint the bezel, clear the corners and put in new bulbs all in one shot. less wear and tear that way, I guess. So I'm waiting for the hotter days of summer.

No, getting the assembly off the car takes 2seconds. Thats the easy part

I guess too me its a PITA cause I went very slow to be sure I didnt snap any plastic or melt anything. Its a mod that I want to look clean and right....

I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow to see if they have any Alero's. I don't want to ruin the headlights on the car and not be able to drive it until I have another set. I'll just do the set I get from the junkyard.

me saying "taking the assemly off is the hardest part" = mod is super frickin easy and "PITA" shouldn't be in the same thread as "I cleared my corners today"

Yeah doing these is a bit difficult. I bought extra headlight on eBay just in case I screwed them up or if they get damaged or stolen

Buying replacements?  Guys, this mod isn't worth all of this. The only way you could ruin your lights is if you go thru all the work of clearing them, then run over them with your car.

No, I think at least one replacement is good to have. Think about it...everyone works diffrently....You can get too aggressive and snap plastic....U can put nice gouges in the chrome on accident with a razor knife or screwdriver...U can melt plastic from overheating.....or you could even seal it poopty and get condensation in the light.

Yea, for the guys that have done 8 sets....its a peice of cake.
For guys like me doin it the first time...it can be screwed up.

Im glad I had an extra light to practice on...now I know exactly what to expect and some short cuts. I just made this thread cuz it was more of a pain than I expected. One of those things where I could do it myself but would almost rather pay someone else to do it.

i cleared my corners a couple of weeks ago.. it took me about 4 hours for both lights... i used a hair dryer, pocket knife, large and small utility knife, large and small flat-head screwdriver, alot of patience and a steady hand... the only chance of you breakin' something is when it comes to prying them apart... this mod is easy, it only takes time and common sense.... yeah common sense, don't drop anything!!!!!!

Took me 6 hours to do the passenger side. Still have to do the driver side. Its been about 6 weeks since I did the passenger side (yess it looks geto but to help it out I also have pinstiping on the passenger side but not on the driver side so it evens out  ). I get condensation in the passenger one only when I go to the car wash. So i figured since I have to take it back apart I figured i'de ask this ?, How would it look with the bezel part painted red to match the car? Anyone done this yet? If so could you post a pic? Thanks, i'll shut up now.

I haven't seen red-on-red, but I have seen black-on-black, and it looks nice.

Geez, all this talk about clear corners is making me think of doing this again. If so I would definately paint the bezel.

might sound retarded but wouldnt painting the bezel destroy some if not all the light output. i say this because the trim is chrome to help disperse the light

Aleromaster
04-01-2004, 09:17 PM
I think the only part of the light output that would get affected would be if they paint the whole front crome piece but it would only affect the coner bulb. I don't think it would have anything to do with the head lights as the light is already projected by the differant angles in the bowl.

Correct. The high and low beam chrome are not apart of the bezel. Painting the bezel would only affect the clarity of the turn signal bulbs. I'm gonna paint mine next week, so i'll put up photos of it

I painted my bezel flat black, but I taped off the turn signals somewhat so it's still chrome inside. The black bezel looks a lot better than it did in chrome on my grey alero.

Unbelievably, I still have the pic:

i always see them painted black... to me those look great... but red? it would be any interesting mod... i'm all for being unique.... hell i say go for it... remember red will show up more than the black, so be careful and precise when painting... if you do it show us some pics, k...
