you can't. Unless you can find someone that wants to sell their no longer available DRL kill kit. I know I'm keepin' mine. The only things you can do is:

1. turn your headlight switch to the parking light setting, then only your parking lights will be on;

2. with car and everything off, set your parking brake to the first notch. This will keep the drl's and auto-lights from activating. Though in my car when I did that and put it in Drive, the warning tone would start sounding and wouldn't shut off until I released the parking brake;

3. find the light sensor in a vent on the dash and wire some sort of light source above it and fool the sensor to think it is daylight out. Though you will still have your drl's on.

Nick, I think that relay block trick only gets rid of the drl's, not the autolights. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

you are right. the only other way to get rid of the autoheadlights is to do the led trick like grouch said.

and i got the same annoying warning dinging bullpoop that grouch has also with the ebrake trick. works ok if you just want to have it running sitting in a parking lot.

I, however, bought the kit a looong time ago when it was still being made and was still cheap.

Might want to check this out as well guys and gals:

Don't know if it'll work on 99 Aleros but it worked with my GA and only took about 10-15 minutes to do (and I'm an idiot.).
Yeah this works great, it took me about 45 minutes, being upside down laying across the seat, but it works great, no more DRL or ALC without and SVS
if you can find the light sensor, you can remove the sensor and put an LED in its place and it should disable auto-on's....but not DRL's...also, i'm not sure that it'll work in Alero's but I konw it worked in my friend's 99 Blazer so in theory it should ;)

refer to: http://invision.aleromod.com/index.php?showtopic=379 for easy drl disable... if i get some time i'll write up something more professional in the how-to's

I will post this one more time as I wish Adm. would sticky this as so many have asked this ??

I have an 01 alero & all I did to disable the DRLs was to unplug the Relay..pull off relay cover...put a piece of Matchbook paper between the relay contact's & reassemble Relay..plug back in & no more DRL's & no SVS light!!!

To disable My ALC all I did was pull the sensor out of it's holder..take a 5mm LED & a resistor (Radioshack#271-086 Resistor)..wire it to the Pos. side of LED & power source (cars Ign) & other side of LED to ground. Place Sensor & LED CLOSE in a homemade box or tube of sorts (so the sensor will catch all the light from the LED. So that when the Ign key is turned on the LED will light & fool the sensor into thinking it is daytime.

Yep...did this 2 years ago when I first bought the Alero & it is still working perfectly. The most annoying to Me was the ALC!

in a way i think the auto headlights are sweet, but sometimes i wish i didn't have them either... so i dunno.. i should just hook up the led to a small switch somewhere

I don't know what the abbreviations mean for DRL and ALC.
What words do these abbreviations spell out?
What is the difference between these two?

DRL = daytime running lights (on during the day, when your actual headlights are not)

ALC = Automatic light control (or something like that) - that's when you're headlights automatically come on at night.

DRL= Daytime Running Lights. These are the headlights (highbeams in most Alero model years) that are on during the daytime at a reduced wattage, designed for visibility and safety.

ALC= Automatic Lighting Control? This is what turns all your lights on automatically when it gets dark. Personally, I found this "feature" annoying.

As far as the procedure freeze12 stated above I am not sure this works on all year models without giving you a SVS (Service Vehicle Soon) warning light on your dash. I have read of others doing that and still getting the SVS light.

Dang 3.4 beat me to it while I was typing. :shoot:

Thanks 3.4Alero and Grouch. Grouch, you wrote that the DRL uses the high beam during the day, I just turned my car on and looked at it and my 2002 uses the sidemarkers instead of the highbeams. Does yours also use the sidemarkers?

Grouch

Most use the high beams as the drl's, I thought it was the 03 models that changed to the low-beam for the drl, but it might have been 02 when they changed to those. I'm not sure. I don't think any year model used the side markers though.

i have an 02 and it uses the high beams, i don't think i've ever heard of one that uses the side markers.. i've thought about doing some rewiring so the fogs come on instead of the highs though.

Your DRL's only come on when you put it in gear. That's why the side markers were only lit up.

Alright, thanks 3.4

easy way to do it.

pull the relay out under the hood and either cut off pin number 87 or wrap it in sand paper and plug it back in.....there is one for DRL and one for auto headlights.

5 mins and there off, you DO NOT need a kit and you will not get an SES....the computer reads constant power off of pin 87A not switched from 87

easy huh

Anybody know what pin is used for the auto lights? If 87's the DRL... I'll try the sandpaper around it... at least that way I can fix it later....

It is 87. I read that and just bent the pin over and put the relay back in and no more DRL's!

Any word on the auto-night lights and weather or not they have a simple relay-interrupt pin? Because that would be sweet... though I am thinking of doing it the other way and just putting a switch in the circuit...

I've never heard anything about an interupt switch, Everyone always gets the kits to hard wire in.

Alright... I'll apologize for the size of this image first off... but if I'm reading this correctly, and if blocking jumper 87 will stop the DRL's from coming on, will blocking jumper 30 stop the auto lights from coming on?

Screamin eagle

Try bending #30 over on the relay and put it back in to try it. Maybe I'll try it today. Ifr you just bend it over you could always put it back if something goes wrong.....

Does anyone know where I can get a new ALC switch/fuse? Mine does not work any longer, and I would hate to get a part at the dealership (they are not my favorite). Also, where is the sensor located and how do I get to it?

Thanks!
