Alero 2 Envy

I found someone local selling a complete 2.2 Ecotec swap. It comes with 27,xxx mile engine, transmission, harness, computer, motor mounts, and axles for $500. Everything came out of an 04 Sunfire.
How hard would this swap be ?

probably not worth the money unless you feel like spending a good amount of money for a minimal difference in engine. Save the money and do the 2.3 HO conversion to your 2.4 or something like that.

So not worth it. My engine is coming close to 115,xxx and my CV joints are shot and motor mounts need to be replaced and I have the damn unknown miss going on. I was thinking it would be easy and give me a newer platform to start with.
I just dont know what all is involved
$ is involved...lots and lots of $

Actually the 2.2 ecotec swap would prove to have more potential than the 2.3HO conversion or even a built 2.4L.
The ecotec goes into the alero no problem at all, just get the Alero specific mounts. If you already have a 5spd 2.4L, and the ecotec you're getting is a 5spd, then the axles should go on with no problem at all. If you're going auto for auto, they still should go in no problem.
The ecotec is a direct swap into an n-body.

if you have the mounts you can have the old engine and wiring harness out and the new engine in, the same day with the help of a buddy.

Is the ECU from the ecotec a direct swap as well? I can just find an ecotec alero and yank the ECU, toss it in and wire it up and it will work?

you would definately need the alero specific ECU to go with it. as far as axles, you might want to pick up some new ones instead of re-using yours since you said your cv joints are shot. that will guarantee fitment as well.
if you don't mind me asking, what is the asking price. i'm just wondering.
it should prove to be a fun little project. and, if you have entire harness, it should end up being pretty simple.
a chilton's manual will definately prove to be helpful as it shows how to work on both platforms.
i was pricing an engine swap about a year ago. i ended up finding a newer engine to put in instead, as well as a supercharger, secret cams, and lsd insert. should prove to be a fun project.
good luck

my buddy did a swap in his 95 eclipse, did it all from reading a book. he went thru 3 motors to finally have good luck. but basicly what im saying is if your REALLY dedicated to it. YOU will be able to do it.

As already stated, it'll just drop right in. Running all the wiring will be the hardest part. Even then, that shouldn't be too tough, but I don't know how or where it passes through the firewall.

I know this may be off subject but my car is sitting in a garage and me and my uncle are disassembling the head, Its taking a while cause all the bolts on her. I ve been thinking could I just swap her with a V6 3.4 engine. I have a 2.4 with future mods coming but I would't mind having a V6. I raced my friends and his has power.

Very doable and easy swap. Only thing you need in addition to what is included is N-body specific mounts and axles, and Alero specific PCM.
