New here, hello to everyone!
Just have a "new to me" a 2001 Alero, I like these type of boards to keep it running right, already have used some suggestions - thanks
My Alero:
2.4 Twincam, 5 speed. 16 inch alloy wheels 225 50 16VR tires all pretty stock. Seems like a pretty rare model 4 cyls with the sport package. Dark Blue.
Replaces my Beretta, so far I very much like the car, something about the free spinning quad 4 that really makes this car a blast to drive, corners pretty good too. Hopefully comming hre will make it better, ill post when I have anything that will help or I need something explained.
Cheers to everyone

Welcome...maybe the previous owner upgraded to the 16'' wheels on their own, cause you just couldn't get them with the 4 cyl

Hey Welcome to the site, glad to see your having so much fun with the car!!

Thanks all for the welcome, I was quite interested in the configuration of this Alero. The door sticker indicats it did indeed come with 16 inch VR tires and spoiler. My research did not have lowly 4cyl coups with 16 inchers.
I'm assuming this Alero was made this way (March 2001) as GM was moving to use up remaining stock of 2.4's in whatever chasis they had. Ive never heard of V rated tires needed in a GL or GX.

Welcome aboard!
Which province are you from?
Also, if I remember correctly the wheels were an option that wasn't very popular.

BC here on the we(s)t coast.
So far things I like:
Driveability, no throttle lag, feels faster than it is.
gas mileage 34mpg on the freeway (29 US). cool looks, well looked after, overall nice car with all options (ex Leather).
Dont like:
Power windows, 200 pound too heavy, key lock reverse, tricky passlock (actually a list im having hard time completing).
Problems so far:
Siezed brake caliper
Dealer sold car with poor tires, they had them replaced w new V rated.
figuring out electronics was impossible until I got a manual.
So far so good, 110,000kms 260,000 to go as far as my Beretta.
Regards,
Jm

^ You're well on your way to a dependable vehicle.
Your Alero sounds much like mine though :P
Just a word of caution with Alero's.... avoid OEM pads/rotors at all cost. They're shit.

Dude. :)
2002 Olds Alero GL2 Coupe. Sport suspension, tires, spoiler, fully loaded except for leather and power seats (big deal). 2.2 Ecotec with a 5-speed. And yes, mine came with 225/50/16 V rated tires :). Forgot to add that mine came with the sun and sound package. Moonroof and premium sound system although I added a couple of subs with an amp.

You could get a 5-speed car in *3* ways from the factory.
GX - (2000-2004)
GL2 - just like Mischief has, (2000-2002) - Sport suspension, 16" wheels, etc..
GL4 - Which is kinda like a GLS (has leather, etc..), but a 4-cylinder. I think 2001 only, it was marketed as a "Spring Special Edition".
and of course 2002 and later were the ecotec, the older are the twin-cam.

V rated tires, good to 149 MPH ;)
Unfortunately limiter hits at 170 km/h (105.6 MPH), although that can be fixed :).
