I have been thinking about lowering my car, but I was wondering if there were any long term NEGATIVE effects of doing this.

Like will I shorten the life of my brakes, ball joints, CV joints, or other steering components.

TIA

I'm going to say that that stuff shouldn't be affected. I have no real experience with it, but theoretically, everything should be fine.

Because when you lower a car, you change how the body sits on the strut. So all of your suspension should keep the same geometry. If it were a car with a Double A-arm, then the suspension geometry changes, but on a car with struts, I really cant see it being an issue. All four struts go straight up and down and support the weight of the car.

struts will wear faster

As Paul said, struts will wear faster, and in addition, depending on how drastic you lower the car, the changes made to the geometry affect tire wear aswell. If you do intend on lowering your car, make the necessary supporting mods aswell IE: Camber adjustment bolts.

one nagative effect is you have to becareful with speed bumps and driving up into parking lots and stuff. try to hit most of them on an angle. struts will wear out faster and also camber angle. also becareful when you park in a spot with parking blocks, don't be afraid to leave some room in front of your car or you might fuck up your bumper.

In the long run you will have a lot less plastic underneath the front of your car. Mine gets ripped off little by little since I lowered it.

Camber kits. Are they necessary for 1 inch drops or can the Alero be alligned for a Eibach Pro kit drop? From what I understood, if you went 2+ inches more, you'd need the camber kit.
