Hello gang need to know how to remove the stock HU from my car I have 2003 Alero. I tried to search for this info and pics.. But I cant seem to find anything or the search just would not go in my favour.
So can anyone tell me how to get that dang HU out?
PLEASE lol
Dano..
Also one more quick question.. Can I use a 2000 Harness for my 2003??? I picked up one to go on my new deck but I could only find one for up to 2000 same with teh dash kit so I bought it anyway.. anyone tell me if this will work?
Thanks
Dano

i think its a 10mm socket take dthe shift handel off use a flat head screwdriver theres a staple in it put car in 1st. remove handle put in neutral pull on the part under shift knob itll pop right off then pop front part which is covering the cdplayer then theres 3 or 4 of the 10mm bolts unscrew and there u go

Pull the trim off thats around it.
To do that you will need to pull (but very carefully) there are 6 (i think) metal clips holding it on left and right of top/middle/bottom.
When u get that off unbolt it on both sides and then pull it out.
Then on the back unconnect the wires.
And you're done

And im about 99% sure all dash kits work the same.

Ok, So let me get this straight.. there is no need to remove the plastic around the shifter then right??? So just pull on the plastic that surrounds the HU and it should pop out once I free it from the metal clips that hold it in place??? Sory just want to make sure I dont break it is all.... dying to get my replacement in.

crutchfield.com buddy.. get the gmrc01 or something like that.. forgot the part number.. if you dont, then u will lose the factory chimes.. its a box thats a little over 80 bucks.. but well worth it.. because you (and i) have the class II databus (i think thats what its called) and you have no ignition wire coming from the car, just a data wire.. the gmrc-01 will take the data wire and not only give the chimes back, but give you an accessory wire when your wiring up you stereo

And on another note I hate those chimes.. so to loose them would not make a difference to me! lol
Thanks for the help.. but more needed HELP PLEASE I NEED MY SYSTEM!! lol

You just need a good memory so you don't leave your lights on!

the lights on my ho automatically come on and shut off..and its an 01...so i dont see why you would have to do that unless the eco's are made differently and you have to manually turn the lights on with them

everyones is, but he may have wired the ignition wire out of the new stereo to the lights like i did my first time. you have to manually turn them on during the day, and then make sure to shut them off. then i redid it and just had my ignition wire fused and run to my constant wire and just made sure to turn the radio on/off every time. then i got the gmrc-01 and it made the hassle alot easier.. no hassle at all dont cut the wires its damn retarded

i don't get it, i ordered a $120 headunit from cardomain and it came with a dash kit and scosche wiring and everything works, chimes still there and all. no harness needed for me. why do some need to spend a load of cash on an adapter and some don't?

that means you probably have a 99-00 or 99-02 or somehting like that.. ie. you dont have the class II data bus in your alero
