Since Im such a noob Im not sure exactly what I need to get done. My local mechanic said he could replace it for 185. What exactly is a gasket? Is it differnet from an oil pan? If I were to buy the parts on the internet, what exactly should I be looking for? I type in 'gasket' and I get all these pictures of rings. I type in '2.4L pan' and I get something more to what I need to get done. Any suggestions?

The gasket is the seal that goes between the oil pan and the engine block that the pan is mounted to. I've personally taken off my oil pan, and it's a pain in the ass to do. Let your mechanic do it. $185 actually isn't bad considering how long it'll take and how much of a pain it is.

Well I was going to have him do it (i cant even change a battery properly), but I was going to have him shave off some of that price if I got the parts myself. So I'm not sure if I need to get just the oil pan or the gasket because I'm not sure what exactly is leaking. I can find a 2.4L oil pan on ebay. But I'm not sure if I need the gasket too...

You don't need a new oil pan, just the gasket.
$185 isn't a bad price, just take it to him and let him do it ;)
