check engine soon

the other day i was driving back to school and all of a sudden my check engine light comes on. has this happen to anybody else and what can cause it?

you have to get it scanned by a technician. It could be a million things...

Take it to autozone, they can scan for SES codes for free.

Autozone is good about doing that for free. Also if you do have them clear out the code. If it's someting to be concerned about the light will come back on. Sometimes the electrical will give off false readings. Unless you notice something seriously wrong then dont ignore any of it.

Did you mess with any sensors? Did you replace your cat?

a SES light most of the time is a sensor but it could be a lot of things.

I had mine go on the other week...turned out it was an EVAP code.

gas cap didn't seat correctly.....cleared at the dealership no charge.
