can anyone comment on how the pacesetter exhaust works on a 2.4 alero? Like does it sound alright and how hard is it to put in. I dnt want it to sound like a weed-wacker so if that the case warn me please!

this is coming from a long way, but still I was wondering this too. Anyone has the pacesetter header and cat back? Was wondering how it sounded and what were the approximate gains from it.
I think this cat back is one muffler, dual outlet, right?
talk to billy, i think hes got the pacesetter, but hes got the 3.4

im currently looking into getting a pacesetter header for my LD9, so i would also like to know about it. Im not gonna go with the catback exhaust though, just a megan muffler and a magnaflow cat maybe

I have the full set up. The headers and the cat back system with a high flow cat. Huge difference over stock, but it does sound pretty ricey. I will be changing the muffler soon to fix that. It installs very easy, but I have had some issues with the front O2 sensor because of the header. I would suggest wireing up a heated O2 if you decide to go with this set up.

Ya I knew there is some 3.4 with the cat back, I could find those on youtube easy, but for the 2.4, I cant seem to find any clip of it, even for Sunfires, Cavys or GA.
Dabear: Thats what I would like to hear, do you think you could make a little video or sound clip to show me? With your description, I guess the sound is more raspy than growly.

Yeah it is pretty raspy. I will see if I can get a sound clip or something. I also found the set up really cheap for about $160 for the header and $250 for the cat back if you want the links to the site.

OOh damn, if I had to put a definition of raspy, this video would be the first on my list. It really sound like a weed eater, I understand why you want to change it. Thx Dabear for the clip, its really appreciated.
GA_Turbo, he mentionned he has a cat. What you talking is putting the stock cat back on? Wouldn't that just screw the performance part of the set up?

Also, I know one of the only trustable header for the 2.4L is the Pacesetter. It may be a stupid question, but is it a 4-2-1 header or a 4-1? Since my car is a DD, I'd like to keep my low end power.

this is a 4-2-1 for the 2.4 pricey though I dunno if you can find this style cheaper.
the pacesetter is a 4-1

They call this a 4-1-1. I don't know anything about this style but they say it retains bottom/mid range. I have heard mix reviews about tsudo (for the ecotec anyway) but mostly on the good end.
BTW this is what I'm getting this summer:

Thx for the hint Nick, The RKS Is pricey, but I would be willing to pay more and have what I want. My only thought is, in the picture, it seems like this would not fit the Alero with the design of the upper curves on the header. Also, isn't a design like this kind of restrictive to the core?
Also, for that 4-1-1, I call BS

No what i ment was to put the catalitic converter back on not the stock muffler back on, at least get a good resonator or change the muffler to an oval style they give out a way depper tone.

I was talking about the stock catalytic converter. He has a High Flow catalytic converter.

Yeah, I have a cat it's just a high flow. I am going to change the muffler in the next few months. And as for the rksport headers it's really up to you, but it is $300 more than I paid for mine, just for your info..

Yeah... saw that :( . Its only that I rarely go over 3500 rpm and dont want to lose the little bit of torque I have there.
Dabear

If anything I have felt an increase in torque. Its off the line and up to about 4000 that i notice the biggest difference..

Hmm, well I suppose that even a 4-1 is better than stock on all rpms. Maybe a 4-2-1 would have made more improvement at low revolutions?
nickbain
01-26-2008, 09:42 PM
That's what I've heard. What ever you end up getting will still be an improvment over stock and you will still have your bottom end just a 4-2-1 design is more efficent at the mid range from what I have heard.

does anyone know if the header for a 2001 cav. 2.4L will fit onto a alero. didnt want to make a new thread when 1 was already made for the pacesetters

I don't know how you guys complain about low end. These cars do their best when they're wound up high.

Thats true on my car atleast, t dont start pulling until about 3000 to 3500.

From what i have read they will, but you have to get the sensor ports re-positioned.

Must be a lot of street light racers on this board, wanting all that low end to spin the hell out from stoplight to stoplight.
