So what are the consequences of not getting new struts when getting lowering springs? I want to get my car lowered A.S.A.P., and i don't have a lot of money right now. $200 for springs is about all I can afford right now, and I don't want to spend another $200 on struts if I don't have to. I have about 82,000 miles on the car.

My car has about 66000 miles on it and I had Intrax springs put on about 10000 miles ago with factory struts and have had no problems out of them. The ride quality feels the same for me as it did with the factory springs.

I could always have new struts put on later though, right? Like, a few months after I get the springs put on?

If you are lowering the car yourself no problem. If you are having someone install the springs for you they can replace the struts all at the same time, probably for the same cost to you. If they put the struts in later you will be charged the same amount that you did to lower your car. If you are doing it yourself do it whenever you want or the cash flow allows.

Hmm, good point. I guess I should just save the extra $200 for struts and get em on there at once. But installation would probably be like $200, no? I mean, $600 for lowering my car is a lot.

But whats the worst that can happen? I mean, when the struts wear out, is the car undrivable until I get new ones? And since I do have 82,000 miles on, how long would I have until they did wear out?

The car wont be undriveable if the struts wear out. The ride will just suck.

I'd stay get the struts now, if your car has high millage. They have to take the sturts off the car to lower it anyway.

Go to PFYC and get the 'camber' kit. when you lower a car the wheels will tilt out and wear your tires out faster

You don't need the camber kit with any of the "common" lowering kits for Alero's (intrax, eibach, spring tech, etc.)

82,000 miles IS a bit high to not replace struts. There are how-to's on here, why don't do it yourself, then use the $$ saved from installation and buy the struts. It's really not all that hard, if you have access to air tools and a spring compressor (which you can rent for about $15 at any decent tool rental place).

Otherwise, I would say wait a little longer and get everything at once. That way you don't take the chance of having to have someone rip it apart again (for more $$$).

Ok if you don't have the money to replace your struts, when lowering your alero. You have no buisness lowering your car. Especially when having that many miles to begin with. Perhaps if your car was a lot newer and had less miles on it. Just save your money, till you can get done properly. If it's because you have a show coming up, forget about it. Do it the right way instead of crying about it later.

Great way to put it stock. The whole thing is on hold because my tax return was crap.
