ipod kits that are $200...i suggest buying an aftermarket radio that has an auxiliary input, and using that to hook a Y-adaptor cord up to the headphones jack...its what ive done and the Y-adaptor cord was like $5 for a 3 foot cord, which was plenty enough.

^ yea same here i just have an aux input adaptor and plug it into the headphones jack. you still have to use the ipod to switch songs and stuff, but its a lot cheaper.
that is what i have. its great because you can go through the songs/playlists on your ipod through the head unit so theres no need to deal with the ipod at all

But my headunit dosent have a headphone jack or input thing. Are the FM tranmitters really as nasty as they say they are?

yes. its the worst possible quality. I have a pioneer headunit with an ipod direct connection, and its crystal clear. I've never heard anything that good. FM will knock the excellent digital quality to a radio equivalent...

i have the pioneer deh-p4900ib from crutchfield. best buy ive ever made in the way of my stereo because i also bought the $30 ipod connector and i can plug in my ipod and put it away and control it from the headunit. crystal clear in deed. btw the pioneer deh-p4900ib is about $175 i think.

If you have an aftermarket radio and have auxiliary imports, you can by an RCA to 3.5mm plug and get it working like that. This is the way I do it and the quality is perfect, and it only costs the price of the cable. I can send you pictures if you want.

The hell?
I have a 15 dollar Transmitter and Holder and the quality is fine. It just plugs into the lighter and the only downside is the shifter can get in the way a little, and it covers the AC button. Unless you're spoiled rotten, there's no problem with quality.

You must be one of the people that can't tell the diference in quality. Most can, the highs and low are way more pronounced. And its not being spoiled, it cost me 10 bucks to hook my ipod up the good way.

the change in quality is only noticeable if you have the stereo cranked up really loud. basicly if you don't mind the radio, then the transmitter is fine

...or if you have a finely tuned stereo system.... or a system you've put money in to have it sound a certain way...
so you guys w/ transmitters are saying its the same w/ the ipod headphones as whats coming through your car speakers?? time to get your ears tested for tones

I know that Best buy was selling something called Ipod to car.
It hooks into the back of a stock radio and gives you a jack for the iPod.
I would have bought it but the Alero/Grand Am/Malibu from 99-04 have a disclaimer that it might not work and to call the company first. The company doesn't know either :rolleyes2:

Look for my post regarding the Audiovox FMM100.
There is one stereo for the Alero that doesn't accept any other hardwired method. It is a CD/cassette with the Monson system, and has no option for a CD changer.
This hardwired modulator allows for a direct connection, with quality between that of a broadcast and a digital connection.

Yeh i have that and it works fine for now. im not willing to change the stock HU
for example.. i only have tape deck and no cd player in my 99 GL so i put in a 10 cd changer... but its in the trunk with the speakerzzz. Keeps it lookin all stock.
