I put the old CD player I had in the Alero in my Park Avenue the other day. Only problem is now I get constant static and engine/electrical noise. It whines as RPMs increase, when the interior lights dim it does a weird sound as the voltage drops on the lights, and even when it's off there's a constant slight fuzz through the speakers.
Sooo, any ideas wtf is up with it? Should I actually wire the power wires to the ignition instead of the plug or what exactly is causing the interference?

where do you have the wire going for the antenna?

Sounds like a ground loop issue. Odds are you need to move the ground from the deck to a different area of the car or on a different circuit.

check all your grounds! and if your runnin RCA's you may have to ground out the rca's (solder a wire to the outside lip of the rca and gound it to the car) pioneer's are notorious for not gounding right in the rca's.

Yeah definitely a ground loop issue. You are getting a voltage differential between mulitple ground paths.

Meh, it's not the ground. I was working on getting a better ground, but it still had the static. So then I pulled it out, and I had it unplugged when I realized there was still static going through the speakers, even with no deck. I put the stock radio back in and it was fixed. So I'm back to stock for now.
I think it may be something with the factory amp, possibly the amp doesn't turn off without the right wire being unpowered or something, so it just stays on and plays a constant static with the aftermarket setup. Or that's my guess right now.

Kill the factory amp...
Problem solved.

If I had a bunch of extra cash I'd redo the whole component system and run it on my own amp/harness/wiring and such, but I don't have the money for that right now. I'll live with it, lol.

Maybe its the alternator causing it. Could be that alternator is feeding back through your aftermarket deck. Factory systems have built in isolation from that while aftermarket decks don't really provide ample isolation. I would try another aftermarket deck to see if you can duplicate the problem. If not then the deck itself may have an internal malfunction.

The static is still present even when it's just an empty radio plug, no radio or anything ocnnected to it, so that's what makes me think it's not the radio.
