How close is an Alero with the 2.4 to being as fast or faster than a 94-97 mustang v6 auto or manual. What needs to be dont to make it better and quicker. And yes i do mean the track, i wont race on the street.

1995 Mustang 17.3
1999 Mustang 16.5
2000 Mustang 15.5
1999-2004 Alero 15.9-16.3
So far all the V6 mustangs I see on the road I own (on ramps are fun, met 3 of them in one day)

^sounds about right...i remember checking out specs on the GT 4.6L and 5.0L cobra, both rated at 215hp with 215 lbs torque (give or take a little on the torque).... kinda sad the v8s made so little power a decade ago from ford. hell even the stock 96-01 cobra only makes 300hp and 305lbs torque.
now if you get into forced induction, its a different story but thats not the point here. im so glad i just purchased a fully built cobra. would have dumped a shit ton more into the car to get a stock cobra to the point this car is at already

But the car im talking about is a V6. Are you two talking about V8s?

i put V6 info, however, we can hold off some of the old V8 ones because they only made a tiny bit of power (compared to most V8s) and weigh more

i think the v6s had like 180hp or something around there...never took the time to consider them a performance car once i saw the low power of the v8s

94 was the last year of the 5.0; cant quite compare it to the others.. my mom used to have one that was loaded, convertible, etc and it would smoke my alero NO problem. The v6 mustangs around that time were pretty gay though, its like they made them to compete in the economy market niche? Theyre in our shop more than my alero too (it seems..) whereas our old 5.0 is still kept in pristine condition and is reliable to this day. (The new owners are family friends) Theyre great cars!

who cares what she thinks? i like my alero its the opaline blue just like my birthstone, has held up like a rock to all the abuse and ricing i used to do to it, and i cant get rid of it. im attached. A car should make you happy everytime you get in it, otherwise its just not worth the money.... imo
( i wouldnt be happy with an old v6 mustang, its not worth shit either..)

V6 Mustangs are dogs, they are so slow and the convertibles are even slower. The times that Ion gave are dead on.
The V8 convertibles are slow too. One ran 15.15 all day at the track with a K&N air box filter and bolt on exhaust (nothing too crazy, I think 2.5 inch, duals maybe? I can't remember)
A 2002 stock V8 GT coupe will run around 14.6 or so, which My Alero matches :D
You can tell this girl that her is the shit, a piece of shit, the only thing her car has is the name plate ;)

I roasted a 2005 GT V8 Convertible a few weeks ago. The paint job and rims on that car looked to be worth twice as much as my entire car. The guy looked like he was going to cry haha

Mustang is just a name, the new V8's are pretty fast, but I'm sure the Camaro totally stock will smoke it

the mustangs are getting some more hp to compete with the camaro. ford went with the lower output cars because the mustang was the only thing on the market when the new stangs were released. bunch of stuff is supposedly comin to the pony car in 2009.

Ive seen a 2001 convertible GT do 13.99 with no modification. All depends on the driver.
The 90-93 mustangs had an output btw 205 and 225 hp combined at 275 to 300 of torque. Hp isnt everything. This torque is powerfull.
My friend owns a 1992 lx V8 manual, and he did 13.9 with only magnaflow exhaust and 3.73 gear with good street tires.
Last year of production of mustang with the 5.0 is 1995, not 94. However, a 4.6L appeared in other models before 95 such as the Crown Victoria.
In my opinion, a stock Alero V6 is comparable to a V6 mustang and no match for a V8 one. Now taking in consideration you have a 2.4L, do your maths.

Sorry to break it to you but you are wrong.
The V6 Alero, stock, runs around 16.2 to 16.5, the V6 Mustang, stock, runs in the high 16's low 17's
A V8 Mustang convertilbe will run in the low 15's, stock, the coupe in the mid 14's.
The fox body Mustangs (88 to 93) will run in the low 15's for the V8 auto, and 13.9 with the stick

O well if she cant handle a ZX2 or a thunderbird, i doubt as unforgiving as a mustang is itll live much longer. Then ill be laughing pretty hard!

Yeah mustangs really don't have that good of performance. I roasted my buddies 97 V6 Mustang in my V6 Alero like he was standing still... when he got an 05 GT Convertible... lets just say the Alero didn't even make an impact

(look down theres 1/4 time for both V8 and V6)
http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html
(you are goin to tell me those mustangs are slow, well look into Oldsmobile where they place the Achieva SCX at 16.2)
I'd say V8 average at mid 14s and V6 at high 15s or low 16s in this chart. And you tell me Stock V6 Alero is 16.2. Well, V6 mustangs compare to Alero and V8 is no match stock for stock. According to this table, a 1999 V6 convertible does 16.5, pretty close to Alero.
Ive seen plenty of V6 at the track to know there are none that runs 17. Last week there was a stock 2006 convert. that ran 15.5.

It also comes down to driver skill dont it? I mean are we looking at times for nearly perfect runs? When the person your racing thinks spinning the tires before the "flag drops" is a good way to launch i think it may effect how ti really works out.
