So yesterday I try to give my CAI install another shot. I finally got my IAT sensor extention in the mail, and I hooked everything up. It gave me the right amount of slack I needed so my regular IAT cord wasnt stretching for dear life.
I drove around for about 10 minutes and it sounded great, the hard shifting was gone, and it was a pretty damn smooth ride, and then.... "TRAC OFF" light comes on. Ok fine, it was still shifting pretty smoothly, then....."SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light comes on, and the hard shifting started all over again.
I even disconnected my battery during the install, so the computer could re-adjust to the new intake when I reconnected everything. I dont know if anyone else has had this much trouble on a 20 minute mod, but Im thoroughly pissed right now.....
If I dont get this fixed, you guys will see my CAI in the Bazaar real soon.
Have you checked to see what code you are throwing?
It may be due to the CAI but sounds more like MAF or something

im still betting you broke one of the connections in the iat when you stretched it out the first time you installed it.

Im not sure if I did because when I put the stock intake back on the "TRAC OFF" light went away, and everything worked fine. Techically, if it was stretched out, it shouldnt have worked when I put the stock parts pack on, right?

I'm not sure how a simple cold air intake would do this. Some weird coincidence must be happening here.

correct. You are right, if you had broken a wire going back to stock would not have solved the issue.
Although you may have done what I did with my IAT.
When you stretched it, the connection between the wire and the sensor may have come loose and they may be why it takes a second for your car to show a code. It may only be loose but not completely disconnected.

check the codes and see if its throwing one for the shift position sensor thingy on top of your tranny. if its bad it will turn on those lights and shift hard b\c the transmission goes into safe mode. Mine only did it sometimes and not others like yours, i replaced the sensor and the problem was fixed. Probably just a coincidence that its happening the same time you have the CAI on.

2.4l has a map sensor homie, and Ive had the same problem with my ho when I had it, even when I took my intake out to work on the HO manifold I was trying to install. When disconnecting shit like that it changes things around so what I would do first is to see if u connected everything right...For me I would just go back to the wiring and see if everything is straight, hookin up a CAI aint that hard just look for mistakes that may have happened along the way

i'm thinking you have broken the wires as well. the reason it seemed fixed was because you reset the computer. it took a little while to see that it was jacked up again. i'd run new wiring.

How hard is it to redo the wiring?
Im making a Autozone run later, so what will I need exactly?

Check the IAT and make sure none of the wires are loose and you will have your answer on how hard it is to re-wire. You may just have to strip the wire end and reconnect it.

how did u connect the wires? Did u solder them or just use electrical tape?

does it really make a difference?

^yes it does, solder makes a much better connection and is a lot less likely to come apart. You should solder all the connections you make.
The IAT I had did not have solder connections and thats why they were loose. You can solder if you want but you do not have to.

link doesnt work, and soldering would be the best, cuz just using electrical tape over time it lossing its strength and comes undone. Would u rather have something done right or half ass, come on dude you always gotta do it right.
