Is it normal for a clicking noise to be coming from the engine in time with the engine? It's pretty steady and picks up as the engine does.

Or should i get this checked?

my g/f's sunfire has the same 2.4 as my alero, and it has crazy lifter tick. mine does not, but hers has double the mileage mine does, so i am assuming its a normal thing for higher mileage engines...

Pretty sure it was indeed a bit low, I checked it while she just ran, So i have her parked on the level now and i'll check it before i move her.

ya, could be low. or you could have a LIM gasket leak and the coolant leaking in is making the oil too thin to lubricate things properly, resulting in lifter tick.

Just one intake gasket on the 2.4 and its built into the manifold.

I actually had to add over a quart of oil. My jaw hit the ground. it wasn't too long ago that i had it changed, and I don't smell any burning oil when she is running. UNless the mechanic i had do it was an idiot. Which i kinda out, he was old, but he knew his stuff.

The whole "Change oil" system. Anyone here use it? How reliable is it?

I had to add oil to my original Ecotec between oil changes as well. I don't remember if I've had to with the new one or not. Also, sometimes there can be slack in the timing chain on the 2.4 (worn guides/tensioner) and that can make a clicking or slapping sound.
