i think i read this on here one time... i know there's a tsb on it... can't find anything tho.

mine has got horrible scratches running vertical on all windows, cause by something inside. they make horrible squeek/scratch sounds everytime i open or close them.

if i remember correctly, i think the window channels are too narrow or something? like you have to somehow spread them apart?

anyone know how to correct this?

I have those too... but I thought it was another reason. My car got stuck in knee deep mud one time and I thought it was just the mud particles (the car was covered in mud... you couldn't even tell I had a red car)that were caught in the window scratching it. I didn't know this might be the cause. Whatever it is... yes I have the vertical scratches on the windows.

yeah I had vertical scratches through my tint on both sides.

WELL. I just pulled my doors off so I can vinyl my carpet door sections, and I found that the inside weather strip (that comes off after the inside door, Had a bend in it, so instead of guiding the window down and up, it was rubbing against it. Consequently I have these vertical scratches through my tint. Well I'm about to cut the offending part out, since it is on my inside and I dont have much to worry about leaking down from inside...

I also have this problem. When I use to have tint on my front windows, it would scratch them horribly. I took it to a shop and they tried to fix it but didnt. They replaced the window and the stripping too. Oh, well.

Do you guys have the automatic or the crank windows? I have tint on my windows, windows are automatic. No problems here.

on my 99 2dr, i have the same prob..... on my passenger side, my window is scratched on the inside.. totally ruined my tint... i have no damage on the driver side except that my freakin' regulator is shot!!! :pissed: :pissed: :pissed: ... if it's not one thing it's another... i'll be changing my regulator out in a couple of days... while i'm at it i'll take the passenger door off and see what i can come up with.. if i find a solution for the scratches i'll be sure and post pics...

The only scratches on my car is on the driver's side front window and I looked more closely at it today. For some reason, the sticker on the inside of the window has been rubbing off when I lower the window and when I raise the window, the glue from the sticker makes a vertical scratch.
SOLUTION FOR ME-scratch off sticker and the scratches stopped for me.

I have this on my driverside rear window.. I took the door apart and found that the weatherstrip was bent all up so I just straightend back out! No more new scratches!

I have a 2002 and have scratches on both my front windows, which are power. I don't have tint yet, but I was wondering if after I fix my doors so they won't scratch my windows anymore, will tint help to hide the scratches?

^ mine didn't help at all.. you can still see where the scratches are at!

Tint makes the scratches show worse if they're on the outside. I didn't even notice 'till I got my windows tinted. Now I can see them on both side windows on the outside. And of course GM won't cover new tint if you get the window fixed under the TSB.

well when i get out of school i'm gonna rip my doors apart...

for now i'm going to start researching the feasibility of buffing/polishing out the scratches. i believe i once read something about some compound/chem called cerium oxide that you can wet buff to get out glass scratches... mostly used in aquariums. we'll see.

How noticeable are they?

^They are a lot more noticeable, but I have really dark tint on my back windows.. so I think that makes them look even worse....

However... my friend has a 99 GA and he had the same scratches he bought some stuff over the phone that is used to erase scratches on eye glasses and it worked pretty good.. it only left the major scatches but all of the little ones were cleared up!

I heard somewhere about using steel wool a low grit then a high grit for finishing.... I dont have the problem myself, but I wouldn't try this without testing it on some other glass...

Just saw a friend polishing his windsheild with it once

well iam goin to take a stab at this my self
as far as what someone said about polishing the glass you can
and steel wool won`t do it
eastwood.com makes a glass kit to remove scratchs,i have use it done it and it works
as far as the prob you guys are having maybe it`s the belt molding on the outside of the door frame///if ya look at the regulator and track the glass is free moving
the window channel/weather strip has nothing to do with this prob
maybe it might be the inside belt molding, i say check out those 2 moldings
or maybe look on the inside of the frame where the window comes up,
i personally have not had this issue at all not in my car or any other car really
again i just took a stab at this with out looking at the prob in real time i tried to help the best i can
