So, I bought a 2000 Alero from an auction for my neice who is learning to drive. It seemed fine at the time, but now it has all sorts of issues. I have no experience with Oldsmobile or PassLock or anything like that. Lol, My mother had a Cierra way back in the day, but that's it.....

1) When I went back to pick it up. The Service Engine Light, Anti-Lock Break, and something else was on. I read from here this may be due to a bad hug/wheel bearing. ok.....

2) It has a coolant leak from somewhere! There is a 1.5" (maybe) metal tube with a small round hole in it at the bottom of the car when it is coming from. The rest of the tube is smushed in! ......AGH! There is no coolant in it now, it's all on my driveway.

3) So, I checked the fault codes with an ODB and got 7 error codes!!!
P0201
P0753
P0758
P1860
P0753
P0758
P1860.
Yes I know some of them repeat. 1 says something about starter circuit A, then another about starter circuit B. I figured it had something to do with the frekaing Viper Remote Start Kit on the car. I have no experience with remote start systems either, but I can figure out a diagram if I had one.

SOOOooo, like a sleepy idiot who drove all night to pick it up after blowing a tire, I reset the fault codes with the ODB this morning!!!! Now, I can't get the thing to do anything. It just kinda flashed very quickly and repeatedly when I turn it to start. Then, the security light stayed on.

So, for some reason I went back in the house. I left the key in ACC! I come back outside and now the thing does nothing. Only the door open thing beeps. I measured the battery at about 10V or something. I'm about to jump it with my car and see what happens.

Will the security thing go away and the car start? It's been over ten minutes. Or does clearing the fault codes mess up the remote start / passlock thing?

4) Oh yeah!....When I picked it up, it was also making it ticking /clicking noise which sounded like it came from the driver side rear, but I didn't get out to check. Yes, it would also lose power.

PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME! With anything. BTW. ....HELLO!;)

Sounds like this car was not very well taken care of

The Anti-lock, Trac Off, and Brake lights are on becuase the hub is bad, chances are it's that one that you hear ticking

The Codes:

P0201 - Injector Circut Malfunction No 1

~Probably cloged injector, number one is in the front, pass side of the engine bay

P0753 and P0758 I don't have an info on

P1860 - Torque Convertor Clutch pulse width modulator circuit

~ I have no idea how to fix that

The security light could be a few things: Your key is worn down and the ign cyl lock isn't reading it too well.

The Security Modulor is fucked up. New Mods cost about $300, but there is a way to rig it and bypass it

Remote start messing with the securtiy mod, I also have a 2000 and it cost me an extra $50 for some kind of bypass kit so the car can start remotely

It was working before I cleared the errors. Could the remote start actually be causing the problem? Will a new ignition lock fix the problem?

did you have the remote start professionally installed...?

correct. it was already installed. i dont know 4 sure, but judging by the empty box in the trunk, i'm guessing its a 791xv. Like I said, I could crank it before I cleared the errors. Any ideas? I've seached but found nothing that fit my problem.

P0753 is 1-2 shift solenoid circuit and P0758 is 2-3 shift solenoid circuit.

From the sounds of the tube on the bottom you have the 2.4, right?
The tube is supposed to be smushed looking, but the hole isn't supposed to be there. Thats probably where your coolant is coming from.

2.4....I guess so. I can actually see liquid dropping from the hole. Its not like a pour though, it's actually pretty slow. Also, I think there is more than 1 spot its coming from, but I can't see that spot. I guess, it's good to know it's supposed to be smushed. Maybe it has rotted through at that point and caused a perfect little hole. I figured the last owner ran over something. Especially since the front is a little lop sided. I guess I'll have to take it to the man for the leak! I'll worry about the body later. As far as the error codes...

P0753 is 1-2 shift solenoid circuit and P0758 is 2-3 shift solenoid circuit.

Ok, so what exactly does it mean? what exactly is a shift solenoid circuit? Does that mean my transmission is gone? For the P201, can that be easily cleaned? Sorry...I'm a newb.:rolleyes2:

I went out to hook it up to my car and it actually tried to turn over, but I guess it didn't have enough juice or was too dead. I didn't wanna stress my old battery either. I didn't leave it on long, maybe less than a minute. I just wanted to see if it was gonna try. PLUS, it doesn't have any coolant in the thing since it's all on my drive way!

Well, any more help would be greatly appreciated. I'm done with it for tonight, except I may go buy a battery. But, keep the help coming, pls!:yahoo:

....one more thing, the ticking noise is when it's in park. It gets louder as I gas the car. I figured if it was the wheel bearing, I would only hear it while I was driving? True?

uh. not to point out the obvious, but maybe you should go buy a different alero. it sounds like a few too many problems unless it has lower mileage and you got it dirt cheap.

$550............cheap?

no low milage though

heh, go back to the person who had it before you and smack them in the face. Cause they ruined that car. Get that car towed to a mechanic (SOMEONE YOU TRUST) and have them fix that coolant leak, and tell them to look into the other things. Sounds like a lot of work for you to do by yourself..... Its gonna cost a good chunk of change, but if you want it to run you might have to pay.....heh

wow...$550 is cheap. anyway, what condition is the body and interior in? like billy said, take it to a trusted mechanic and get at least a quote on what it would run you to get it driveable.

good luck :) hope it all works well for you

My vote: Part that mofo out and call a junkyard. You annouce it and they'll be all over the parts here.

Def sounds like a new tranny is in the works with this car. I had a car with the shift soilnoid getting jammed in 3rd gear and then when you'd stop, it was like a stick without pushing in the clutch, and the only way to get rolling was to mash the gas and drop shift it. So I unpluged it, but that won't work with an Alero, since they haven't had plugs for soilnoids for quite a few years now.

The coolant leak isn't always a bad thing, it just depends on where it's leaking from. A LIMG (Lower intake Manifold Gasket) leak isn't bad but a head gasket is

Well it seems like its the shift solenoid circuit (an electrical problem), not the solenoid performance. I found out today, that the last owner had a transmission put in right before it was sold, but I didn't get the details of its condition. Maybe it has low voltage or or a bad connection. ??
