looks kind of gay, almost every headunit has preset eq's and you can also tune your own on them

That units alright. Its flashy...

Its only 15 bands of EQ. The sound themes it has is useless.

If you want to buy an EQ worth the $300 look for at this.
http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/showthread.php?threadid=145008

That gives you less EQ, but gives you time alignment. After experiencing time alignment I will never own another system without it. Simply amazing!

you might be able to clear this up a little more... (e.g more detail)

what is the functional difference between a good eq, and a $1k signal processor??

i've been wondering that for quite a while, due to repeatedly seeing them on sites and wondering who'd pay that kinda bank, for something that seems(in pictures) like a glorified eq.

before you rush into a new eq, would you be able to elaborate on what deck you currently have, it would be helpful be able to place a eq or dsp behind a known deck rather mismatching or double eq'ing the source or more than likely with the case of the deq-7600, over powering it's line level in and out, it is only 2.2v output with 0 to 4v input.

ok..
i have a pioneer deh-p4900ib with the ipod interface, if that even matters
anyways.. ive been eyein it for a while and i would like to know if it is worth the 300 dollars.. if its not then let me kno.. because my finger is on the order button and im wantin to click

better take that finger off the clicker I would not get it as your current deck has more preamp voltage than that eq produces....... allow me to help you spend you money: seriously, I do alot of stereos for cars and peterbilts on the side.

take all that money your are ready spend and consider this, are you going for glamour i.e. another object in your car, or are you pushing for best sound and functionality, if you are going for glamour, buy the unit through sonicelectronix.com, I spend thousands there and never had hiccup. It is 209 bucks for that unit. OR...... if you want all your equipment to work properly and sound it best, you need to ditch your radio, and buy the deh-880prs surprisingly it is 309 from sonic, but with this you get one 16 band eq left and one for right, full crossovers, full time alignment, and automated time alignment (basically there is microphone that comes with it and you plug it in and get out of the car and it sets up your car for you) automatic equalizations of both left and right sides 16 bands IN ADDITION To the Manual EQ; BBE processing, (helps with certain music),, 5 volt , you can have the ability to go into promode, where there is a pair of rcas for tweets, mids and subs, no full range mode, since you probably have components you can appreciate this.

Downer is it is only gray scale. But you can see it better than the blue during the day.

If you need more processing power than this then there is something wrong, but then again I have the older sister to this model, the DEH-p960mp which was the last true audiophile pioneer before this was introduced.

second downer is you have to buy the CD-IB100II ipod interface i think they have it for 44 bucks, but serioulsy with this unit it is nearly impossible to justify another EQ or DSP or hell even a EPicenter for the subs, this is exctly what i would do if i was not setting on 3 pioneer premier decks and testing out 3 pairs of 5.25 components (mtx, Ma audion, phoenix gold) versus the 6.5 soundstreams i happen to have laying around to figure out what i want to put into the alero. decisions decisions, just get the head unit replaced, besides it is shiny

No dont buy that EQ.

If you really want to mess around with an EQ trying a cheaper analog counterpart or even a different manufacturer all together.

If you are thinking about tossing around $300 as suggested the 880PRS is a sweet unit.

I will be running it next year in my sponsored SQL ride...

I bought a refurb off E Bay for like $280 shipped. Works perfect no issues.

and these 6x9's?
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_5024_Infinity+Kappa+692.7i.html#

what is that box?
it cant be cross-overs can it? i mean these arent component speakers, so would they have an x-over?

Cliff8928

Yep, those are crossovers with those 6x9s, their wiring is just like the factory Monsoon speakers. I have a set of the 693.5i and that's how they are. Unfortunately the older ".5" models won't fit the Alero because of their massive plastic basket. However they changed that with the ".7" models.

Thats the radio.

There are refurbs on E Bay I would advise one of them. Seems there was a problem with the 880 and some got repaired. My experience with refurbs is they fix them so well they dont come back...

Thats a chincy crossover for them coaxial 6x9s.

Get good front speakers... no 6x9 needed!

what kind of front speakers should i get? i'd like to get some components, but stick with brands i know, like infinity, pioneer (havent had one set of good pioneer speakers), kicker, alpine... lol what kind of fronts?

Whats the budget?

If its $100 and underish, check out Cadence's factory direct store on E Bay.

5.25" comps shipped for like $85 and they look very nice!
