Rear View Mirrors [Archive]

There was a thread about a week ago that was talking about the ability to use an Oldmobile Intrigue mirror in the Alero so you can have a compass/temp gauge. Is it possible to use other Oldmobile mirrors such as the Bravada or Auora (sp). The bravada has onstar which i know would not work for an alero but it looks like you have the features lol....not to mention a compass/temp gauge. I am also assuming that you would have to get a hold of a new harness as well to run the temp gauge wires

If wired correctly it should work, except OnStar.

You could make the onstar work if you really wanted to. You'd just have to wire in the VCIM.

I put a Gentex autodim mirror with the compass, temp, and led lights in mine. I got it new off ebay. It was made for a GM product. Pretty easy to install, just have to run a wire from the temp sensor in front of the vehicle to the mirror. Also have to run a wire or two to the fuse panel. I replaced the wiring harness in my car with the one in the kit. It was a pretty easy install.

and if someone was going to swap a mirror from another gm car.....how would you wire the compass and temp up??? that would be pretty cool to do!

The compass sensor is built into the mirror...for the temp gauge you just have to run the wire to a location on the car that would read the outside temperature...and for power, just tap the wire into something that gets 12V when the car is turned on
