Ok so my problems is my 1999 alero , currently at 116,270 miles was working fine till over a week ago when I was just driving normally I was at a stop light and then went to hit the gas and the car was going up and down, like if the gas wasn't going to the engine. I see my rpm flux up and down then it flatlines. Ok so I get out of the car, check everything to make sure that my batt is correctly connected and I get back inside to turn the car on, it cranks but no startup. The security light comes on and so begins my headache.

I waited the 10 mins, nothing. I tried this around 5 times till I got the tow truck to tow my car. So finally at home I go online and read about the reprogramming the ignition code, so I tried it and after the 1st try, viola. It started.

Ok so I took it to the shop and it drove without a problem. A few days later they call me and tell me the car is stalling when they leave it idling. They have no idea what it is, they checked the engine light codes and they said that none of the codes pertain to the fuel delivery system. So now its been close to 2 weeks and they still dont know what to do. Ive about had it with my alero, its has given me nothing but problems since I bought it 2 years ago, as much as I hate the car:banghead:, I can't help to love it.

Has anyone experienced this problem and if so can you please give me leads as to what to tell the mechanics to check..

Thanks :thumb:

Have you ever cleaned the throttle plate? That can get gunked up and cause hot restarts to be bad, as well as rough or wandering idle. Dump in some injector cleaner at the same time and you'll probly be good to go.

security light makes me think its the same simple problem I had, try your spare key. maybe its not as worn down and the security system won't think you're trying to steal your own car. Worked for me, the key I'd used for 4 years was finally worn enough that it needed to be replaced.

That would be the first thing I'd try. It's a common problem and has happened to me with my old Delta LSS.

my 2000 die driving down the road one day. brought it home ( tow truck) found no fuel pressure at the rail. didn't want to jump right in to the pump so i started with the fuel filter 117000 miles and the filter was never changed oops :rolleyes2: fixed :yahoo:
