good choice with the pioneer 6x9's. I would get a good amp to power both the front and back speakers and then another amp(s) for any sub(s) you would add. I have an alpine driving all 4 of my speakers and it made a huge difference in sound quality even with an aftermarket HU. You could always add a 1/2 din equalizer below your pioneer HU for additional sound custimization and a good dash look.

A EQ is a pretty good idea. Get one with a preamp that will boost your rca ouputs to around five volts if possible. This will allow you to lower your amps gain and give less distortion than the 2 volts on the radio. Just look to see how much harmonic distortion the EQ gives. A word of advice, if it does not post the Harmonic distortion then pass it up. I try to shoot for .05 Just like in a amplifier if it reaches .1 then the sound quality will be seriously tainted. That should only be used for subs if quality is the goal. If you r looking for a amp for your mids and highs then go for the better quality amplifier. Remember that the 4x6 and 6x9's will not need the high power that the subs require. So go with a amp that is rated with a RMS that matches the RMS of your speakers. Spend the extra money on the quality compared to the wattage. After that, then go for a sub or two. This just depends on your taste. Do you like loud bass that you feel or a more tame and slightly cleaner bass? Such as the bass in a rock song. If you like the loud bass then put a sub in the trunk. this will amplify the bass and make it even louder. If you prefer rock music then stick with two eights or a ten and place it inside of the car if possible. MY old car had two six inch woofers and a eight that were built into the seat and the upper deck between the 6x9's. that reduced all of the vibration and distortion that the trunk brings.

well, as far as the 4x6's go, your really not gonna get much useful mid to low soudns from them. And you need a nice full range from the up front sound stage.

id recommend moving to some 5.25 or 6.5s up front.

It would be a lot easier to help if i knew what you wanted. Loud bass, SQ, etc. and what kidna music you listen to.. rock or rap or what.

i wish i could upgrade to 5.25 or 6.5's up front.....
but i just dont wanna go through that extra work to get them to fit in that damn place......
unless there is a really easy way to do it.....
but........

I was thinking of keeping my 4x6's up front and possiby upgrading them to 5.25's but my main plan was to fit a small 8" sub in behind the HVAC controls. I haven't been in my car for a while (2 months :() so I don't know how big that space is, but with a custom fiberglass enclosure, I think it may be possible to fit in a 8" and possibly a small amp for it....

If you want it to sound good and me LOUD. get some good 4x6 plates, that can take about 50watts RMS, and get some good 6x9s that can take 50+ RMS< and get a 4 chan amp to them.

That would be very loud.

Or you can just forget the 4chan amp, and run 2 12" with an amp, that will be loud too.

Ditch any thoughts of putting a eight inch in the front. There would be way too much effort involved in the process which would only deliver poor results. The vibration from the sub would creat one big rattle box with the dash. Remember that low hrts are felt more than they are heard. The spread of the sound waves are very large meaning that a sub in the rear of your car will fill the front stage as well. I would suggest placing a eight inch inside of the car in the rear. This could either be done in the rear deck or possibly on the floor. If you check out focal you can find a five and a quarter sub that has a larger excursion than most eights. They run about one fifty per sub. Place two in a custom enclosure between the arm console and the rear seat. Keep the four inch plates in the front and run some amped wattage to it to clean up the sound. This will give you extremely loud and clear highs, mids, and decent lows. This woud sound great for songs such as rock or blues. Then place a larger sub in the rear like a twelve or two tens. Put a switch on the front subs and the rear subs so that they can be independantly turned off for the type of music you prefer. Another option is to place two twelves in the rear trunk and run a baffle or tube to the front of your car. Experiment with the diameters of the tub but I would suggest at least two inches. In essence, this is creating a port from your trunk to the open cab. I have heard this done on a mercedees show car and it sounded great.

yea id say scratch the 8 inch upfront, the 8 isnt really going to play that low of frequencies but its still going to rattle the crap out of the dash. as far as him wanting it loud, theres mild and wild. you can get an amp thats 50x4 and do it mildly but after a while it gets old or you can get wild and push about 80x4 i dont know if those speakers can handle it but you will like having the extra power, its better to have extra than just barely enough I think.

Should sound quite good, the 600.1 is that 600rms? if so at what load...
When getting your sub be carefull to get the correct configeration of voice coil resistance's to get the right load on your amp
