i was wondering if anyone on here knows where to get some clear tail lights, cause one of my stock ones is cracked and if i got to replace it i might as well try to find after market ones instead of paying stock one, i saw the thread about the guy charging 400 for them but shit i would buy my headers b4 i would buy tail lights for that price

yeh ur prob talkin about Anderbra.. and thats the only place ur gonna find them, lol. (well, him or wrightie, who charges similarly i imagine) Thing is, aftermarket tails for our cars are not mass manufactured.

No one makes aftermaket tails for the alero. The ones for 400 are custom made by him.

only because not many people waste their time with an alero.

well that just sucks, i like wrights but 400 thats a lot for some tail lights, granted they look good

You could make your own for less, just don't put pin stripes on them
dtldiaspora
11-04-2007, 12:10 AM
how? basically same way as head lights?
rustyballs_69
11-04-2007, 12:13 AM
No, its a little harder than that I think. I don't know I haven't done it, I like the stock tails.

i dont have a problem with them its just one of mine is cracked and the crack is getting worse especially since i had a friend lean on it, lol, but at least she wascute so it made it ok

I would assume that the red is only film. You could probably just clear it out with a shitload of goo gone.
If the plastic is tinted, then you'd have to have someone replicate the shape, then take it apart like headlights, and do it back together.
rustyballs_69
11-04-2007, 12:23 AM
I would just get one off ebay
dtldiaspora
11-04-2007, 12:25 AM
true, if nothin else i could mess with the piece that is about to crack off and see how hard it is to clean off maybe
rustyballs_69
11-04-2007, 12:30 AM
Yeah with the cracked one you could take it apart to see how hard it would be to make your own. Either way you need a new one.
dtldiaspora
11-04-2007, 12:37 AM
exactly, so after i replace it with a stock one ill fool around with the cracked one and so what that entails

Negative. The whole lens is made from red plastic. There's so way to make the stock lens clear. You have to remove the stock lens completely and have a new clear lens made.

11-04-2007, 12:44 AM
well that sucks lol, im guessing that isnt easy to do?
you would have to make a new mold for your clear tails if you wanted it done

Just plain clears are $250. Which is about the cost of a stock set at the junkyard.
$400 buys you these. I have to install the outer lens still mind you, but they're about 90% done although already sold. :(

I work at a medical facility and we use them when we are filling vials thats what we have the product in. I have one that size and it has four nipples at the bottom of it so i attached tubing to it and it turns into a four person beer bong.lol

LOL thats great....I was thinking of making one into a wine keg....to eliminate the need for me to bottle them. These ones are 6 Gallon, and I have 1 that is a 5 gallon in the garage.
I have always been a little leary nowadays carrying them in and out of the house, even though they are for wine, I wouldn't put it past some nosey neighbor thinking they are part of a meth lab or something.

Just a marketing question, but have you ever considered selling just the clear lenses?

I have been asked that many times. My molding process does not make an exact replica of the stock lens. IE: its not as simple as putting the lens on and gluing it it place.
I start with a sheet of lexan, slightly larger than the desired lens. I heat it up to the point that it is flexible, then I place it in my mold. Then I need to cut out the lens in the shape of the stock one, just slightly bigger for epoxy reasons. I put it in place with epoxy and clamp it so that it cures with the epoxy. Once the epoxy is set, I go around a cut the excess off the edge of the lens down to the point where it is the appropriate size and shape.
Thats a brief explaination. I am going to attempt to take pics of the process as I do it for this set.

Whats your method of heating the lexan? Would the oven be good?

Yep, I use the oven because I can heat the entire sheet up evenly. I am actually molding a set of lenses now and i am going to take some pics of the process.

You keep giving tips Anderbra and your going to have to drop your prices. LOL! Would be neat to see exactly the amount of work you put into those.

 I have dropped the price of the LED tails by $100. Im not going to show the whole process, but will show some details on the molding process to show how much of a pain it has been to develop.

My idea as for a mold was to cover the existing light with foil or something, then heat the lexan in the oven, once its flexible place it on top of the covered tailight then heat it a bit more and carefully mold it into place. Once its taken shape, remove it, tear off the foil and break open the red light plastic thing then.... well you know...
Will this method work?

Its a little more complicated that that. I will get some pics up of how the sheet of lexan looks after coming out of the mold.

Yeah from the pics I saw that. That was one of the earlier sets, I changed the process a bit since then so that it is much cleaner. send me an email anderbrainnovations@hotmail.com and I will work with you on it.
