Have you checked your power steering fluid?

maybe sounds like wheel bearings
cv joints will make a poping sound

That does sound kinda like wheel bearings. On my old Cutlass, I had to get the wheel bearings replaced once. They didn't hum- instead they squealed. They did the same thing where they would get worse if I was turning in a certain direction though.

An afterthought...
I have heard wheel bearings do this. My fiance used to have a Focus that hummed (it got to be really loud after a while, until he figured out it was the wheel bearings). He had bought new tires and everything before he figured it out. The bearings were in several pieces when he took them out to replace them.

Sounds like CV Joints to me.

My vote: bad front wheel bearing. Take it to a shop, have them tell ya which one it is, then replace it yourself. You'll save a bunch of $$$.

My vote is for left front wheel bearing. $112 is the right price for the bearing. $50 to install it isn't bad either. I've had both of mine replaced.

my dad was thinking wheel bearings were only like $15 or so.... but hes older a phone call used to be a nickle lol

Well, the bearing itself is about $20. Problem is, the bearing is sealed in the hub, so you have to replace the whole hub. That adds an ABS sensor, etc, etc.

Yup. That's why it's $100.

Yeah, I had to replace both of my front bearings. Even the right one twice. It was covered under my extended warranty but I had a $100 deductible each time so it wasn't much help. <_< I also had that same noise come back after I got my bearings replaced and it it ended up being my worn tires. You should check your tred or rotate your tires.

How hard would it be to replace the bearings yourself? Is this a pressed-in bearing or tapered? If you can replace it yourself, what steps are involved? Thanks!!!

You can't just replace the bearing. The bearing is inside a sealed hub that includes wheel sensors, etc. You must replace the whole hub. That was stated other times in this post. If you don't want to listen to us, then why are you asking. This is a very common problem that many people have experience with.

yes i know that... alot of people have experience with fixing it or having the dealer fix this? me and another guy will be replacing the hub here this week or next, is this complacated i need to look thur my Hanes manual still, ill do that and see ;)

Haynes manual is a good resource. I put a how-to up also. Check it out. It pretty much is the same as the Haynes, but with a little more.

Sorry about the earlier post. I though you were still stuck on just replacing the bearing, and not the hub. My bad.

I'm having the same thing when I turn right. Mine starts about 30 MPH. Now that I know what it is I can get it fixed. Dealer should cover it, right?

Wheel bearings are famous on these cars, we replace them all the time, problem is that you'll probably be replacing them every 30-35km or 24-37miles or atleast that is how the trend goes. They are covered under extended warranties so always check that out first, but if you get it done at another shop, some techs. accidently tighten the bearing too much and mess up the wheel speed sensor, be aware of that.

so just tighten to specified torq in the hanes manual, i see that the 99 models are diffrent from the rest
