My little sister is getting her permit and she has a car, a red 95 firebird. (nothing too badass, its just the v6.. shes crazy enough!)
The trunk opens like a hatch and it has a t-tops rack in the deepest part of it for the glass tops... and i wanted to help her get together some type of subwoofer setup for her for a pretty good value. I wanted a custom enclosure tucked into the side so it would look factory under the back glass and no one would try to harass her car. The spot is only big enough for a 10in custom enclosure in the hatch on the drivers side. They mass produce these for the f-bird/camaro (of course) but i found one pretty cheap on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190172967269
I wanted an Alpine type R in there because i LOVE alpines.. its what i have all around in my car and 2 12in woofers in the trunk. I found one for a good value:
http://www.etronics.com/p-1103-alpine-swr-1042d-10-type-r-series-subwoofer-4ohm-4ohm.aspx
and i was going to give her my old amp, which is this (i think):
http://www.etronics.com/p-14933-kenwood-kac-8103d-class-d-mono-power-amplifer.aspx
So my questions are:
will that amp jive with that speaker?
is that .6 cubic ft of space even enough for that speaker anyways?
One other thing.. im getting a new amp for my dual 4ohm Alpine 12in.. will this be sufficient to power them really well? i can get one for $300 btw
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=PDX-1.1000
Theyre specs are:
Power Handling
• Peak Power Handling: 1500 Watts
• RMS Power Handling: 500 Watts
• Power Range: 200 - 500 Wattsif that amp wont be great please recommend me another one that will be very good for under 500 bucks.
Note: only respond here if you really know your stuff, i dont want a bunch of conflicting, incorrect info. I would love Ryan's opinion, or sweetnlow's... or aftermath or something....
Thankyou for reading this long post!!!

The thing I like about that amp you picked out is the fact that it's small, but packs a punch. If you can get one for $300.... Get one for me too. :D As far as for your sister's car, a buddy of mine has the same car with a nice setup, I'll go get some info on his setup.

thanks but the problem is i wanna keep the area for the t-tops rack clear. its takes up nearly the entire trunk area.

hmm nvm cav i cant get that exact alpine amp for 300.. there are two others that i think are slightly older models for around that price though:
1000W for $327

this one's 1500W for $266

My opinion!
The Alpine R is a good Sub and that kenwood will push it at 300watts at 4ohms and 500 watts at 2ohms, and thats bridged. That amp is 1ohm stable as well so it may even push above 500 with enough power. Good match! For a sealed enclosure .6ft will work fine and you some to play with from like .5-.8ft.
For the dual 4ohm Alpine 12in That Amp should work well IMO, I mean here are the specs for that amp, and you would be right at the RMS high for both subs. Make sure you get enough power to that amp.
• Per channel into 2 Ohms: (@14.4V ≤1%THD+N, 20Hz - 200Hz) 1000W x 1
• Per channel into 4 Ohms: (@14.4V ≤1%THD+N, 20Hz - 200Hz) 1000W x 1
Hope that helps!

Either of those will work, are you looking for BASS or good sound quality. Thats alot of amp.

You can get that power out of an amp for a lot cheaper, look for used Hifonics monoblocks or something. Around $200 will net you 1000-1500 RMS.
Type R's are a great sub, a budy of mine has two of them and for the price (about $90), they hit hard.

I'd go with the first choice. seems to be the best deal in my eyes.
But if I were to actually get a system for my car, I'd go cheap and get the Wal-mart stuff.... Lightning audio amps and subs. unless they get a pioneer amp to go with the subs they are selling. lol

A co-worker of mine has a (MTX?) sub box in that exact location. It's nothing crazy but does make a good improvement to the sound system.

Ok...
that stealth box is way fricking small... Your sub choice probably isnt good in that box, the tuned frequency will be to high!
Kenwood amps suck butt, period. Do NOT waste your money on their crap, it truly sucks and is one inch above Sony!
Alpine...
Type R = good buy. They always come through with bass and at a cheap price. They lack in the SQ department though.
But I have a better and cheaper product for you. Elevation Audio. A dealer on my board is closing his doors, so hes blowing out his inventory below dealer pricing!
Right now you can pick up a 10" SQX sub for $75, couple that with a DX500.1 for $150 and your looking at a $225 setup that will stomp out that Type R, wont kill your sisters alternator and saves you money too...

Well your not to far off.
There isnt to much room. Theres a well that goes down.
I think subthump or something like that makes a good box for these cars. It runs about $150ish though.
The best bet with these cars is dual 12's. Get the pre made "baffle board". Cut the carpet out of the well. Lay 3 layers of 1.5 oz strand mat with a baffle around the edges. Put the MDF baffle down and glass it up. Done and stronger than hell :)

Thanks a lot ryan.. i may just pick up that SQX sub.. its a great price. But the thing with the kenwood amp is that i already have it laying around, extra. So its a pretty economical choice at the time.
and also on the dual 12 box... that would take over the t-tops rack which we need to keep available.
one more thing ryan, your opinion on these amps for my dual type R 12's in my alero??

Well Im not a fan of Alpine amps. I think they are pricey for a mid line amp.
They are rated for 500 WRMS each, so I would be leary for the 1500 WRMS amp.
http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8687
DX1000.1 for $200 ;)
Should give you about 1200 WRMS overall, maybe a bit more ;) The R's can handle a little extra power, not 500 wrms more though lol
