If you are talking about the fire wall I wouldn't take the chance of cutting alot of it away, or your car could fold up like paper during an accident. Be more clearer on the steel you are refering to.

Damn even with all the plastic cut away it still wont fit? Well again I wouldn't suggest cutting out a part of the firewall. How much clearance do you need? Is it the whole back side of the deck plus the harness?

you can get in there with a sawzall and cut that crap out. i had to do that with my old clarion in dash i had. its just mounts for the plastic stuff.

its some sort of support...not sure for what though...when i cut it out, nothing fell, nothing broke and nothing rattled, so I assume it didn't do any real damage.

Not the clearest picture.
I had to cut that metal strap out of there after I took the picture. I got my Dremel tool in there though :)
Just be VERY CAREFUL to not hit the wires.
Trust me, F'ing up your wires SUCKS. I did it once and am WAY careful from then on out...

cut it when u take the dash out.. much easier! .. mines been cut forever.
that metal bar is the dash brace to bolt on to and to protect you in a reck (front collision when the engine gets pushed in, it'll catch it from going inside any further.
