i'm not entirely new to car audio... but I don't know ANYBODY with one of those cars that seriously booms. i'm talking like you hear the bass coming minutes before the car, echoing through the neighborhood boom.
what are these deaf psychos running? 1/2 dozen 15s and 6000 watts? a couple of good 12s and 1000 watts?
also, what do these people have into their cars?
i guess the loudest car i know of is a daytona with 2 10" JLs and a bahn around 800w rms. pretty loud but not even close to some of the ones i've heard.
i'm running a offbrand amp @ 300rms, with a single 12" mtx (both 5 years old) and i'm quite happy actually.. some may laugh but for me i just want the extra umph and punch that you can only get from subs.

It depends on a lot of factors. Some could just be running one sub. Some could be running multiple subs. It all depends on what kind of box u got, along with the vechile type. Lot of factors.

Its simple... theres NO replacement for Dysplacement
The bigger/more woofers you have, and more power, will result in more air being moved... and thus more boom...
Now you said you have one 5year old 12? if you want hella boom, get 2 newer 12's and about 1000rms... ported box, and lots of dynamat
Or maybe a coupple of 15's with about 1500-2000watts rms, and lots of port...
Or if you wanna go insane.... like my buddy with his civic... a wall behind the front seats, 2 18inch AUDIOBAHN dvc subs, and 2 jbl 1000.1 powervalves... and LOTS of port... STUPID loud.. up untill the deck skiped (top of the line panasonic)
Or annother guy i know... had the loudest vehicle in westren canada... older gmc blazer, 24 12's and 10 or 12 amps... ppl had to lay on the sides of the thing and on the winsheld to prevent the windows and doors from buckle'n....
But if you dont want to pay too much for your system a coupple of deacent 12's ported, and good power will give you what you want me thinks B)

The other night, I was getting out of the car at a friend's house, all of a sudden I hear, BOOM, 2 minutes pass and I still can't see the car, about 3 minutes later after I stepped out of the car, a white ford explorer pulls up in front of my friend's house and the system is so loud, it's making my liscense plate rattle from 50 feet away. The guy was also coming over to my friend's house and I found out he was running 2 Orion P 15's with one MTX 1500 or 1800 amp(??) He said it was 1000 watts RMS. So, I think 1000 watts RMS should be quite enough, but if you want to lose all your hearing like I do, go for the Orion H2 15 which is 2000 watts RMS. Happy Booming

Im runnin a couple tens, pushin about only 800 watts on a real old amp till i get an amp that can accurately power the tens, and already the subs pound loud, thanks to a very good ported box (it weighs about 30-40 lbs but worth it). Its really just about what kinda car u have and the setup...wish I could get ahold of those new alpine subs ::droools:: 1000watt rms each, wow
