View Full Version : OSV bodykit Group Buy

I just got a call back from the guys at bodykit and it sound like this is a go, it all depends on all of you! He would be willing to start with the 7 guys we have but would prefer a total of 10. We agreed that once the naysayers saw the kit they would love it and end up buying it in the future. The problem for those is that it would be $800-900 in the future just for the kit.
The biggest issue is the donor car if paulyb backs out as it is in California right now. I need to hear from him personally to work out details.
This is for a full fiberglass OSV bodykit and not a lipkit. the group buy price is $600. The spoiler kit would cost an additional $275. We can do one or both together. There will be only one and only style of the kit. This kit will look like the OSV kit, pictures have been sent and more are getting sent tomorrow. For a total of $875=shipping, you can own an OSV bodykit. These are custom made in California and not some cheap ass Japanese kits.
We will not own the rights to the kit as someone aske unless one of you guys wants to plop down $9200 to buy the rights to the kit and the molds. This does not bother me at all. If these guys can sell 100 of these kits to some of our guys I don't care, just means that they would be willing to make more stuff just upon our request.
Shipping costs will depend on where you live and should average between $80-$150 and is due at time of delivery.
Once the donor car is there and the money is collected it will be roughly 6-8 weeks for delivery.
To powerlifter: I emailed you and you did not respond or post so there is nothing more i can do at this point.
Below are the guys that committed to the group buy on the previous thread, if i missed someone let me know.

how in the world can the OSV rear spoiler be bolt-on? it's a smooth piece blended into the trunk and rear quarter panels. unless we all get the spoiler then mold it.

The green OSV was a bolt-on by the way. Those that buy it would have to mold it if they want to look like the red OSV.

I was under the impression that this wasn't going to happen untill after the holidays. If yall want it to go through before the holidays then I hate to say it but I'm out, but if it is still the origanal plan of after the holidays, ie, in January ( which is the impression that I got) then I'll still be in.

You only want the front? I might only want the rear. I'm not sure but I was going to get the whole thing and sell what I didn't want afterwards but if you only want the front then perhaps we can work something out?

Before I start collecting any money from anyone, I still have to verify if paulyb is still donating his car for the mold. His car is in California right now but will be sending it back to the east coast by mid to end of February last I heard from him.
By the time this all gets put together it will be after Christms because I do have a life also but I don't want to wait to much after that. I do not plan on waiting til April or May as some have requested, I don't want us to risk losing the donor car.

April or may would be better for me but january or febuary is still better than now and doable. Now if anyone wants to buy my snowmobile then it would be a lot easier :)

Does that mean you have the money to throw down now or in April? For the most part all of the details are worked out, its amatter of the donor car getting there and everyone gettin the money together.
If we could have the donor car there by mid january i would be a happy camper and start it then, if not we lose the donor car that was being used. There is just a tiny bit of coordinating going on here, can you see that.

I cleaned up my emails yesterday because I rec/send so many for work, poor timing on my part. It was sent maybe 2 weeks ago basically saying that I don't want to step on anyones feet and cause them to lose money but this OSV kit thing has been going on way to long. I said that I highly recommend posting pictures of what progress you have made on the kit regardless of where it stood, just to show some progress on it. I also spoke to your new partner Marc on the phone last week and told him to forward the message to you. That was it basically.
It may have gone into your bulk email? I don't know.

You will have to fabricate the exhaust tip yourself or wait to see if we can get a group buy on that from a metal fabricator. Oldsman and i spoke about this earlier tonight and agree it shouldn't be too difficult.
The cutout will be in the bumper for the exhaust tip.
throw me on the list definately for the full kit and spoiler.

Im going to need to pay off my credit card charges after xmas.. hopefully i will be functional again before then. Best case scenario i will have the money by mid January. I hope thats ok.
I'll let everyone know when it will happen based on paulb being able to supply the donor car. If not, we have to go to our backup Jose if the Navy will let him drive down there. Everyone needs to keep their fingers crossed.

oph FYI on the exhaust cutouts...........these will have to wait to be produced until after the rear bumper is made that way the 2 items match. But i will check on a supplier. These tips probably be made out of sheetmetal if you want them cheap cause the cast alum orginal piece would be more costly to make.

looks like the metal is a bit thinker than your average sheet metal and if we want this to look as close to the original osv's then to avoid making it look goofy, better off with thinker metal, but that would have to be a mutual agreement with all of us on how that is made

Well, If you put large enough pipe on it and use a resonator (Moroso Spiral-Flow works well for me) it isn't too bad, personal taste i guess.

Once we get something worked out, I can see if i can get the tip(s) made by the guy who did the ones on the XLR (http://cliff_scott.home.comcast.net/~cliff_scott/XLR_Rear.jpg). I still have his business card.
My only reservation with getting this is what happens if something isn't right with it? Do they guarantee it? If they do, I'm in for the whole package. Both my bumpers need replacing anyways.

one question, i dont wanna crap up the thread, but will this kit be available after yours are made??? so i can just call the place or email them and ask them to make me one? I saw u said it will cost like 900 if we dont buy now, but are they always going to have them available?
Thanks!
Depends on if someone buys the rights to the kit and the molds, if they do they can do whatever the want with them. They could sell more kits on the open market or crush the molds. The rights and molds would cost $9200. I could find better ways to spend that money, like on a Alero coupe purchase to place the kit on.
If nobody buys them, bodykits can keep selling them at a much higher price. They told me it would retail at $900 just for the kit, I didn't ask about the spoiler. If they have trouble selling them, they may discontinue the sale of the kit and destroy the molds.;)
I was talking with Scot last night and he brought up a valid point. If one of us has the kit and got into an accident, it would be nice to have a place to go for a replacement piece.

It'll take sanding, filling, materials and paint...depending on where you take it and their price per hour, how much time they put into it and various other factors it will depend. My bodykit cost me $1000 to get fitted and painted. It will be less the better the kit fits and quality these guys put into it.

Got you down for both the kit and spoiler. The exhaust would be your personal choice, but OSV was a Borla system.
Cool. As far as the exhaust um I have know Idea of how to do it at least not yet if I were to do my own would I need a mig welder to weld the muffler to the pipe? And I would like to go with borla that would be, coo..

If you don't know how to do exhaust, just have it done custom at a shop, but shop around for price. Unless you will have a long term use for a welder, it doesn't seem worth it financially to purchase one and would drive up your cost to put an exhaust on your ho.

I do not have the exact dimensions for them, Scot may have a picture of the OSV car tip with a measuring tape held up to it.
Scot and Cliff are looking into someone custom making the tips for the group.
I would wait to make one until you get the kit to make sure it is an exact fit. It would be good practice for you though.

well this really sucks but I gotta be out, I had a coolant leak in my truck so I replaced the Intake gasket, put it all back together and still leaked, tore it apart again and replaced head gaskets, put it together and today it dropped a buch of coolant in the oil, so looks like I'm looking at a new motor wich sucks. So unless my sled sells then I cannot afford both and I need my truck so I'll have to be off the list because I cannot count on the sled selling to get the money. If it does then I'll be back in but untill then I can't guarentee that I'll have the funds.

looks like the metal is a bit thinker than your average sheet metal and if we want this to look as close to the original osv's then to avoid making it look goofy, better off with thinker metal, but that would have to be a mutual agreement with all of us on how that is made
with sheetmetal the edges can be rolled to give the thicker look and still look good.
Now to have the originals copied we are looking at a lot. make mold for the 2 cast alum pieces, have the tips poured, machined, welded, polished.
i was told you would be looking at least $300 for the tips if not more.
however doing in sheetmetal and having them chromed would be a lot cheaper.

I don't see that this would be a problem for just the spoiler with bodykits. We need 10 to do the project and we are not there and he did't say they had to come from the same buyer. I would say no problem to get it.
Are you serious enough to add to list if it's a GO!

I'm not sure if you have the stock body on it right now. The body has to be a stock Alero. well, the steel panels and hood are stock right now, but I have the AAS kit on it currently, but I still have the original bumpers and side-skirts if needed. There is no body damage either, so none of the dimensions are out of whack. Only problem is, I DON'T have the stock black plastic piece installed under the front bumper that helps to hold the shape of the original front bumper. I had to remove that for the intercooler radiator to go in.

Are you or anybody else willing to take that chance on waiting for someone else to do this? Like I said previously, I think the group we have compiled looks good and we still have a few guys waiting to decide. If everyone follows thru with what they say they would do, it will work. If not we have enough hot air to fill the Hindenberg, or for you younger guys that would be the Goodyear blimp. ;)

the market for this kit is not large, or it would have been made already, we can barely get 10-15 people for this list, i dont see why you would go through all this trouble for 15 sales, just my opinion

Someone has got to stand up and make an effort on here.
IMO, the only reason we get 10-15 people is because many take the attitude of, "I'll wait and see what it looks like." That's one of the main reasons why things never get done. The other is many on this forums age group and financial status. Many on this forum should not even be modding cars because they are one day from bankruptcy.
What you call trouble is what I call a challenge.

Depends where in Cannnnananada it is. You would also have to pay any tariffs or duties. It also is suppose to be paid in US$. You Canucks will obviously pay the highest shipping of the group which is paid at time of delivery.

OK, I got a call back from bodykits tonight. They received the pictures that Scot e-mailed to them yesterday which is great! Here is an update on the kit.
For those that asked, the kit will be made of roughly 1/4" of hand laid fiberglass over most of the piece, it may vary in some areas due to curves or whatever.
The spoiler will NOT be a bolt-on as originally stated, this is due to my listening skills. It can be done in bolt on if we desire, but will be made to adhere with 3M Double sided adhesive(supplied) that is used by many of the major car companies. That is a relief, because I didn't want to drill holes in a car based on a template. Been there/done that with with one of my 442's, ughhh.
The guys at bodykits are ready to go on this kit, they love it. We still need to finalize a donor that can have their car in California to work on for about 6-7 weeks. I have still not heard back from paulyb as to his status and his email that is on record is no longer working, so if there is anyone else with an all stock Alero with no bumper or side skirt damage that wants to earn a free body kit, just let me know.
We can start this baby a movin as soon as we have a donor car in California.

I got some stuff that I'm waiting on to arrive before I have it up and running again, and that stuff won't get here until after the Christmas holidays. JoseRivas19 had offered his car as a backup donor car, he got the OK from his commander to drive his car from his base in Washington State to L.A.
He heads out to sea in his submarine(Go Navy)on Feb19th. His car received a little gouge in the rear bumper on Saturday, courtesy of some ass at a Walmart. I sent off pictures of the car to bodykits to see if that would get in the way, because it doesn't look to bad.
If they give it a good to go, I would like each guy in the group buy to donate $25 towards his gas and food for the journey from Wash St. to L.A. I think it's only fair.
He would bring it down there around Feb 15th.
Below is a pics of Jose's car with the damage.

Your bodykit would be free. Waiting to see if spoiler would be free also.
Is your body fully stock? No mods no anything. It must be with stock bumpers or they will not work on the car. Your car being raised lowered shouldn't be a problem, but it would make things more difficult for them.
They said that the kit would probably be about 2" below stock height.

I still have the original body parts, easy to swap back on in about an hour tops.
No permanent body mods.
As far as the suspension, the front is lowered by clamps, rear is raised with spring-blocks. Both easy to remove, or lower the rear to match. Either way.

dunno, all depends on arrival date of the parts (no sooner than 5jan arrival), then how long it takes to get everything installed, then set up and tuned.
If you're in a big hurry and need it in January for certain, I'd get someone else on rapid standby status. Better yet, I'll try and be the stand-by and get someone else to commit to a date.

Alrighty, it looks like we have the donor car set up now. Thanks to those who offered their vehicles on this group buy.
The donor car at this point will be StoopidAlero who lives in St. Louis area. The drive is 1600 miles from what I calculated, or 3200 round trip for those that lack the math skills.;)
He will have the car out in L.A. the 3rd week of January. I would ask every member that bought the full body kit to donate $50 towards his gas and food for the drive out their and back. If you want to give more that is fine because that is what I will be doing. We are doing this as a group and must share in the costs to get it done. I will work out the collection of the additional $$ for gas after Christmas. I will see if bodykits can collect the money and have the cash waiting for him in L.A., that way I don't have to touch anything. If not, I will handle it. On a side note, they normally want $675 for a group buy on a kit, we negotiated a $600 price so the extra $50 is not really that bad of an add-on.
I spoke with bodykits yesterday and they will handle the $$ collection for the kits and spoilers. So as Cliff stated it would be wise to use a credit card that has buyer protection. If there are any issues with anything, we've got our butts covered.
I ask that all involved in the buy PM me your shipping address and what you are ordering so I may verify info that bodykits is being given to make sure there are no mistakes in production or shipping. I will not be responsible for your mistake. For the guys in the Chicago area, they said we can save some money on shipping if it is to a business vs residence. We also could put 2 kits into 1 shipment for convenience and savings. In St. Louis, there are 2 guys. One is StoopidAlero and the other remains anonymous by choice. On the drive back, I thought StoopidAlero could throw his bodykit in the car and drive it back and deliver it or him pic up depending on how close they live. He would save on shipping and could throw some of it back to StoopidAlero for his troubles. Just a thought. Let me know what you think guys
If you have any questions post on the thread.
I can't believe were getting this done guys.:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

haha.. Well I sent an email to bodykits asking what the best way would be to get from LAX to Corona. Im thinking if cabs go out that far, thats the easiest way. Its just going to cost an arm and a leg. The plan right now is to fly back home, and then fly back out whenever they are finished. Flights are looking to be about 240 one way. (me and the lady will be making the trip) And we are figuring driving about 12plus hours the first leg. Stopping to sleep somewhere around texas. Then finishing up the trip to Corona. Possibly stayin a night in town and catching a flight back home the following morning. If all goes according to plan, the journey would begin on a wed. Hopefully arriving sometime Saturday. If anyone has some flight info please PM me. I have only flown once. It was into Newark when I went to NYC. I think if i can handle that monstraucity I can handle LA.

hey StoopidAlero, why dont you fly out of the ontario international airport? its only like 22 mins from corona. or 20 miles to be exact. and its a straight shot to the airport. just find interstate 15 and head north. then get on I-10 west and follow the signs. its not too bad. thats my suggestion. i know all that area, so thats my advice because to LAX its an hour drive, without traffic. keep us updated bro.

Southwest flys out of Ontario airport to St. Louis everyday. Departure time vary by day and the is at least one stop on each flight. Looks like it is about a 7 hour journey. Can't do much without exact dates.

Can everyone have their funds called into bodykits by Jan 25th? We need to have everyone paid up so Stoopidalero can get out L.A. He needs at least 2 weeks notice before the trip. Remember an additional $50 was tacked on the kit price for his gas. Post back on here whether that is good or not.

For you it would be a total $925 + COD shipping. You would have to call them directly with your order. Full instructions will follow in a few days once I know if this time frame works for most.
I don't want to touch a dime of this money as I am not the one selling the kit.

Yes it will retail much higher than that, I don't know the exact amount because I am not the mfr, my best guess at this point would be 1250-1400 + shipping for the kit and spoiler combo. It also could be much higher than that, they are a business and must recover investment somehow. They are not doing this as a charity.
I know you understood this based on the PM's back and forth, so now why all the confusion?

Once everyone agrees on a date that the money will be funded to Bodykits.org, then I can let my work know that 2 weeks from that date I will need off. And powerlift.. We are just going to have to trust bodykits.org. Well I’ll just cut to the chase! Stoopidalero has just had to back out as the donor car for our buy. His new employer will not give him the time off. Yes it sucks but there is nothing he can do about it. I found this out yesterday but have been researching other options before letting you know.
Paulyb now that your back on the forum, if you want to still be the donor let me know ASAP!!
Jose Rivas is already out to sea, but has already made arrangements for payment with bodykits if this ever goes thru.
I had a pretty good backup plan started when he posted about his new job. I have to be in the San Francisco area for company meetings starting on Feb 3rd. I would have driven out to LA dropped off my Alero and then I could catch a shuttle flight to Sacramento to attend a week of meetings at the winery. I had all the details worked out just in case.
Bodykits finally returned my call today. I told him our situation and that I might drive out there and deliver it myself. I explained that my Alero was not the intended car for the kit I was ordering on the buy. I asked him about the process they use to make the molds and kit. It was then that I knew I could not be the donor car. Nobody is drilling holes into my Final 500 bumpers.
I am trying to locate junkyards in the LA area to see if they have any Aleros that might have a blown engines etc. with intact front and rear bumpers and possibly rent the car from them for 6 weeks and then have them deliver it and take it away once they have taken off the OSV kit.

That actually sounds like a very good idea. Although, it might be hard to find an Alero there where the body is in really good shape so Bodykits can properly fit the osv kit to our cars.... Just an idea... don't know if this would work, but maybe you could ask them if someone they know has an Alero over there that would be interested in the bodykit and donate their car for us...... Wouldn't hurt to ask.

dood Marc's car had issues driving to Lansing i wouldn't trust it to drive to Cali.
You could drive mine to Cali..........if your body could take it.
that issue is fixed, it was a loose ground from when i took the amp out and it was connected to the fuse box. All is good on the car now.
and btw my bumper can go back to stock within a matter of 2 hours :)

:(
Bodykits finally returned my call today.
Doesn't Oldsman have an extra set of bumpers? (bdyman's originals?)

Doesn't Oldsman have an extra set of bumpers? (bdyman's originals?)I believe Chris is using them again so he can finish his car and sell it.
