Something wrong???

Well, all of the sudden, in the last, oh about 300 or so miles on my car, it has developed a vibration that feels like the transmission. I turn it on and its fine, but when i shift into any gear, it starts a noticeable vibration. My car has 74,xxx miles on it, and was just wondering of a trans flush would be advantageous. I know some people say not to get them, some others swear by it, but do our cars respond well to a trans flush or would it screw it up? It has also been hesitating a little bit upon takeoff, but just for a split second, then it picks back up. Thats all I can think of is the trans, maybe a filter for the hesitation, but the vibration is what is concerning me right now...

ive heard mixed opinions on tranny flushes, but i dont think its good for the car. getting new fluid into the car would be a good idea, but when you flush the old fluid out, you make it travel in the opposite direction that it would normally be flowing, which in theory could cause problems for your gaskets and such.

It's not necessarilly a tranny problem. When was the last time the plugs and wires (if 3400) where changed? Is it throwing any codes? When was the last time the fuel filter was changed, injectors cleaned? Possibly EGR (again if 3400). The reason it could be vibrating after you put it in gear is because it idles lower in gear than in park or N. Also, when it "hesitates" at take off, does the motor hesitated or does the trans slip.

yeah, i forgot an impt detail, i have the 2.4... i will go ahead and replace the plugs here soon, as it is def. due for some. its not throwing any codes, and i have yet to change the fuel filter in the 40,000+ miles that i have had it (prolly should get on that too). its more of an engine hesitation it feels like than a trans slip, like it sorta dies for a split second then resumes power...

but i agree, i've heard that 2/3 of flushes result in causing far more problems

^ then just drain it and fill it. you still get new fluid at least

well, i had a flush done on my car and it did wonders on the way the trans shifts. It also allows the mechanic who's doing it to see if there's anything wrong based on the fluid that comes out. I read a Consumer's Report article yesterday about making your car last 200,000 miles and the #1 thing it said is to follow your scheduled maintence list in your manual (which suggests a flush)

Yes, flushing it when you're supposed to is a good idea. When you get past that it's sketchy... sometimes it'll help a lot, sometimes it's best left alone. When a trans wears, all the bits and pieces are left floating in the trans. Eventually, all that's gripping to the clutch material is the gunk in the fluid. Getting rid of that gets rid of your friction and with new fluid you'll just slip.
