My change oil light just came on, so i know i gotta do it soon.... but my question is, does stuff like this really do anything...

http://www.autobarn.net/chmm013.html

i routinely use full synthetic (5w-30), it seems to run a little better and certainly turns over better in the winter.

I'm currently sitting at 56k miles.

Also, when is a good time to throw some seafoam into the engine to give it a good cleaning? (or is seafoam just a better version of what i posted above?)

Personally I wouldn't put any "mystery" liquid in my engine.

ha. it just cleans out all the funk that could possibly build up from wear/tear and oil by-products...

Rev the snot out of the car a couple of times a month and the car will be fine ;). I only once used a fuel injector cleaner and it made it a little better but in the end I had to replace it anyway.

My vote goes to now for anything else other than regular maintenance and change your oil.

I've posted a couple of times about using Marvel Mystery Oil in my gas for cleaning up sticking/fouled injector(s) in my 2.4 Alero. I used various injector cleaners to no avail but the MMO did the trick. I also put it in the oil about a week before an oil change. I've used MMO for more years than most of you have been alive and in many different types of motors from my 2.4L to my 455 TA that I use to have. Besides Autozone that Brim mentioned, it can be found in most parts stores and in WalMart.

So products like that actually do a decent job cleaning interior parts?

I guess it won't hurt to give it a try. If i don't notice a difference at all, i only wasted like $5...

unless someone has a horror story about it.

I always used Mobil 1 5W-30 not fully synthetic tho. Fully synthetic is not to friendly with the oil seals. And I tried Motul before once. It's pretty good stuff but hard to find. What makes you think your engine needs internal cleaning?

its got around 56k (34k of which i put on it) and i've never done it before. better to keep things clean then to just assume they are.

i didn't use marvel... i decided to go all out and throw a bottle of seafoam into my car. (one half pcv one half in the crankcase) seems to work well.

marvel is in the same product group as seafoam (no not the same) also marvel can be used in alchol to add the petroleum that way race cars can run striaght alchol
