OSV and custom Badging

Hey guys, I'm gauging interest for the moment but i am probably going to go into a rather small scale production of OSV alero badges hoping some of you that have participated in the OSV kit group buy may be interested... As for the rest of you... i am more than willing to work with you for any other ideas on customized badging... The badges i will be making (as far as my plan goes for now) will look like the design seen below... i will post a picture of the actual product hopefully by the end of the week... the design will be printed on metalized polyester so the background will be chrome.... i will then be covering (doming) them with a high strength flexible epoxy. gives them a 3 dimensional (about 1/8th inch deep) highly durable finish. like i said... i will post a final product picture and i still have to work out pricing... these can be customized relatively easy... from (close to) car color matching to completely different layouts... Feedback is welcome.

well here's round one... the largest one (asv alero) depicted is approx. 4.25 inches long... the smaller ones are about 2.75 inches long... i also have a few that are just OSV... without the alero part below it... I will try to put together a nicer photo presentation when they are cured... about the olds symbols... the larger one is 3.25"... smaller being 2.25"... These are kinda sweet becasue during the day they look normal but (as the flash on my camera illustrates) the black is also reflective...

I'd be more than happy to... it would have to wait untill I dome another set of something as the doming material isn't cheap and you have to use it all once you open it... gimme specs on how big, anything special about it... and i'll tell you what it'll cost ya.

Looks good but if the OSV was in diff. font. If I sticked that on my car it would be to obivious that Im trying to make my car something its not. Try to make it look like it would come out the factory and it would go with the car.

lol... nice. love the pimptress edition... thanks for the offer on the PSD's... actually though the actual priniting software is omega composer, vector based. so if you didn have a custom design, an illustrator document would be more help. these are simple enough though.

it is just a photshop as of right now... it can be as big as you'd like it to be if i were to make them... it depends on if you want it to be domed or if you just want flat decals... if you are gonna use em as promo handouts, you wouldn't have to dame them... if they were given away for doming business with the website, the doming adds a little bit more quality and durability.

Hey kiddies! I was thinkin about ti today... and this would be mabye for the OSV kit purchaser that were thinking of possibly buying badges... (or for anyone wanting a little more high end badges) i was thinking about doing up some that instead of the CF look... had genuine gold or white gold or something of the like... or verigated gold leaf like the badges i did on my WRX. i'll try and get a photoshop up to give an idea...

here... its a scrap i had layin around... took a pic... this piece has a lot of red in the verigated part... also can do genuine copper, white gold, aluminum, and 23k gold

for everyone else... this monday i will be slow at work so will be trying to run a few things off... if anyone know they will be ordering lemme know asap so i can make em on monday so i know i'll have em in stock... i'm planning on running off a few old symbols, and some extra SV symbols in all colors, along with a few extra of the 2.4 and 2.2 and quad 4.

Update... well got a few of most everyhting run off so i hope i have what you may want... also changed the GLS one up a bit... will update that when i complete them... and i made one set of verigated gold "SV" badges one with red on the right... one with blue... i'll get pictures of those also... i think they'll look very nice... and afterall, it's gold. lol. also got a few of the "alero" with the olds symbol at the end... and a few more CF olds symbols. and if anyone is interested, i have a couple of the "SV" symbols with clear instead of CF so it will automatically color match to your car when you put it on... might look cool? figured i'd give it a try.

these are another spin on the genuine gold SV badges... the inlays in these are genuine 14K white gold. i wish i could get a good picture as the metal of the inlay looks a bit better to the naked eye and a camera can reproduce... i can't quite describe it but it's sweet lookin.

well another member was kickin around the idea of wanting a third brake light overlay cut out of vinyl... and i was tryin to think of a way to improve on the look... so as of right now... this it just gauging intrest... the decal would be printed silver on clear to allow the letters to show through. the letters would be outlined in either crhome or black... (visual represents chrome) and then the person would have the option to have the decal with the clear doming material... that i think would look sweet as it would give it a round smooth shiny (and durable) finish... it would also aid in easy install... lemme know kiddies!

sorry... been runnin aroun like a chicken with ym head cut off this week... the front olds symbols most definately will fit in the depression in the bumper... as far as the tail light overlays... still haven't had the time to make any... was out of town all weekend and such...

as far as application location... if it were me... i'd eithr consider low on the front doors... or high on the fenders... of i guess mabye low/middle front fenders where stock badges usually goes on a car...

well hopefully this week i will be able to complete a couple overlays for the third brake light... i will be making a couple in black... and a couple in silver metallic... there will be an option to have them with a thin coat of doming material on them... i think that will be the best bet for a uniform look and longevity of the overlay... it'll also make it much easier to install.

on another idea... this is pretty much just for those of you that bought the OSV kit... if anyone has any intrest in any badges mabye for the back of the car reflecting like a ..."OSV #1 of 11 original" "#2 of..." ect. or something of the sort. notifying you were part of the group buy that brought about the creation of the OSV kit... might be cool... you're number would be contigent on what order you comfirmed in the group buy as far as numbering goes... and a design for the badge would have to be agreed on between the people interested in the badge... lemme know!

well i got the "alero" part done... now i just printed some and i am just needing to size them to match the 3rd brake light... i think i'll do three versions... black with chrome outline, silver with chrome outline... and mabye one that is just dark tinted with black outline ("outline" meaning the outline of "alero")

hmm... well... that would be possible but i would have to cut the letters out of the CF print although on second though... i like the CF as an accent... not as a fill color... anyway...that would mean the doming material would not be over the letters. It would leave smooth edges around all the letters which actually might be kinda cool. do you know what i mean? here are some options...

Metallic silver with black outline
Metallic silver with chrome outline
Black with chrome outline
white with black or chrome outline

I am working on one that is tinted around the letters but to make it dark enough uses a lot of foil (the ink) as the way to make it darker is add more layers... i know already that it would need over 10 hits.

so as of now i'm gonna say those previous options are prolly gonna be the most feasable. also... the ones that aren't domed i think i am going to send NOT cut to size... the lettering will be sized correctly to fit... but the excess around the edge will allow for the person to wrap it a little farther around the edges so as to make sure no light leaks around the edge.

which reminds me... the best way for people to install the particular ones i think would be to take out the third brake light... which is simple.. two nuts on the inside of the trunk. the domed ones i will try to make so they will fit just dandy... and if i think it nessesary, i'll send a little strip of vinyl to wrap the edge if there's going to be a problem with light coming around it.

regardless... i will try and get something made up by the end of the week at the latest... will post pictures when i do!

well like i said... the ones that aren't domed... i think i am going to just offer in a square shape... or at least with enough around the outside to wrap... and the easiest way to install these would be take out the third brake light... the domed ones i will make as big ass possible but they won't be able to wrap around the curve very far... i'll let you know how they come out... :p

well yes and no... the material stretches... unlike window tint... and therfore you can wrap it a sufficient distance around the curve of the lense to not see light... we wrap vehicles with it after all.

i have 2 of the alero overlays done that are just vinyl (same chrome lettering and color vinyl as in the picture above) but they aren't cut to fit so therefor i can't dome them... but they would technically be ready to install for someone not wanting the domed version.

Unless you come up with something that blows me away as a design for this, I'll take a pass. I have other things in mind for badging that will be custom made.

As for who should get bages that state 1 of ?, The only ones that truly should get those are the people that bought the kit and spoiler package. It's not the OSV without the spoiler.

This is not the actual one off of the Final 500 but is a replica.
Where it states LCA 2004 on this example it would read 1 of 500 on the real badge. I was thinking that the OSV emblem in the center would look nice.

welp here are some pics of the domed third barke light overlays. if you'll notice , there is the domed part and then there is a ring around the outside of it. this ring is the part that i used to wrap around to seal the light from showing around the edges. or one can simply remove the ring of excess material and use a thin strip of electrical tape or something like that. i have 4 black/chrome ones made made so far, 1 silver/chrome, and 1 silver/black. I also have a couple extra that aren't domed. those i just left a little oversized so the excess can be wrapped around the light... or actually it can lay flat across the gasket(you'll see when you take out the third brake light for install.

I might be thinking of revisiting the idea for the OSV group buy badging... i am just getting into contact with a prototypeing machinist to maybe have some sort of machined bades or plates done up... it greatly depends on the price and who would be interested. i'll ask my questions and let you all know what i find out...
