My gf has an '02 coupe that when started and running, has a clicking sound coming from the engine. Is that normal for the 2.2L? Oil is fine and changed regularly. Any thoughts?

Does it only do it when it is cold? Does it go away when it warms up?
Mine does it on cold starts for the first minute and then it goes away.

Not sure, she drives it but I will have to check it later. So it's normal when it is cold and then goes away?

my 3400 does it when its cold... i talked to my neighbour, and he said its the piston slap from lack of lubrication during cold starts... and that it should go away once the engine is warm and fluids flowing properly... but if it doesnt go away, be sure to get it checked!!

piston slap is caused by the pistons being slightly too small when theyre cold and they "slap" the cylinder, and expand when they warm. Lifter tick is caused by lack of lubrication during cold starts.
