So how bad of an idea is it to cut one coil out of a set of lowering springs. How much of a drop would i see out of this and how horrible would the ride/unsafe be?
I did this to mine when I took my lowering springs off. The ride was smoother than the lowering springs but you want to make sure you cut where the springs will seat on the mount correctly.

so should i do it to my regular coils or just the lowering springs?
regular springs is what I used. I also had both strut bars just FYI.

That's what I've always heard as well. The heat from cutting them can alter the properties of the springs and make them prone to breaking.

That's why you don't use an acetylene torch. You use a die grinder.
I do NOT recommend cutting stock springs if you plan on using your suspension for more than average driving. Don't be trying to drift and crap like them ricers.

Just cut stockers why ruin some good lowered ones...

i've ridden in a couple cars with cut springs and it sucked.
i wouldnt cut springs, but thats just me.
To clarify i cut my stock springs to the height of a completely released lowering spring. Which was about 1.5 coils to make it seat right in th mount.

Id like to go about 2.5-3 drop, thats why i was looking for coilovers. Im definitly not going to do somthing thats going to be dangerous.

i bought the eibach lowering springs and let them sit for about a year...i still did not like the height so i cut the front 2 springs 1 coil...lowered it a bit more but honestly not a big difference...someone above mentioned a die grinder...USE that!!!! not a torch..as for the confort in riding...1 coil wont effect it much...i am tempted to cut a 2nd coil if i dont find a better lowering system (outside) of baggin' it...let us know how it worked out for you

Not safe, don't do it.
We had a guy on here a few years ago that cut 2 or 3 coils out of stock springs and tried to sell them to us for $500 a set.
Of course when nobody bought any, due to the insane high price and saftey factor he went nuts

i've run cut spring on a couple different types of cars in the past, i cut the rear springs in my mustang for better launches with southside machine bars and it worked very well, and there was no safety problem, i cut the springs on my 84 vw rabbit gti and it was no less safe. actually rode and handled very well. just dont go crazy.

Yeah, make sure not to go crazy, cut the right end so it still mounts correctly, and if it were me I would just cut a bit out at a time, maybe start with a full coil, but only go like 1/2 a coil at a time after that.

correct me if i'm wrong but if you cut only 1/2 a coil wont it not fit right on the mount?? because the cut will be 1/2 a coil short of reaching where it needs to sit, right?

1 coil is aprox 1 inch. going beyond 1 coil will start the bounce factor.
