Just bought a 2001 GX, and it did not come with keyless entry key-fobs. How do I know if the car has this? Was it available on this model as an option or standard equipment?

A dealership can tell you. Then can run your VIN for different option codes i believe. They did it for me.

I had keyless entry on my 2003 GL, but didnt get the fobs. The fob (1) + installation (programming i guess) would cost 130 bucks.

i dont mind the keyed entry

more than likely your gx doesnt have keyless entry and the only way you could get it would be to get an aftermarket one or an auto-start of some kind.

yeah... johny's right. i have a gls myself which came with keyless entry, but with a gx you'll probably have to get autopage or something of the like.

Same here GX didn't come with one but bought an alarm. Opens doors and trunk. Best way to go in my opinion. Why just waste money on an the remote, why not get an alarm.

Umm i dont think you are on the same plane as me and jonez...
I know that some base models will come with keyless, my buddy Kev had one..
But in his case he may not have it stock...
If it did come with it he can (as was suggested b4) go to a dealer and have his VIN run...
If not..
He can purchase an aftermarket alarm/convienance system... like some of us have..

an easy way to check would be to look in the fuse panel.. and see if their is the fuse's(or relays) on the passengers side..(i think it was pass side...) for the remote keyless... if not then yours didnt come with it.

If im wrong let me know...

hrm, i'll have to check that. however, the dealership guy i talked to said that all aleros come with em. i was just lucky that the previous owners didn't lose em

Well my o3 alero coupe dont have em.... i bought it new
the guy you talked to is wrong... and most ppl dont loose em.. the dealers loose em, cus when ppl get em they go on there keychains.... Most ppl dont loose their keys...
If I had a car like that.. (where the stock key fobs were lost,..) i would disable the factory keyless...
cus that means that some one out there is runing around with your fobs... ;)

Thanks for the input guys.
I just called the dealership and they ran the VIN # and the car doesn't have the keyless entry.
It's not really a big deal so I won't worry about it, just thought I'd look into it.
