I saw this on ebay and had a thought. there is a guy who rents space across the street that sells computer stuff. so I want to see if any one would be interested I can get them at a discount (not sure how much yet). here is an ebay link for the one set up.

brake light (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-05-GRAND-AM-ALERO-CCFL-CATHODE-3RD-THIRD-BRAKE-LIGHT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33716QQihZ009QQit emZ190214614318QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)

i am changing out my third brake light cuz I have a short in one of the 65 leds and I cant find it :rolleyes2:

so your looking to just get cathodes cheap? or make these kits??

cuz if your looking for cheap cathodes oznium has some, and he might discount a big purchase... i'm not sure.

I kinda like the LED a little better. It seems cathode looks too yellow orange

...but cathode is SOO much easier.

and yeah... see if you can beat http://www.oznium.com/cathode-kit on price and quality.

shipping is 2.99, and the red is definitley red. (used to be a pinkish, but they fixed that issue) 9.99 for a pair. plus, phil (owner) is awesome.

I am looking at getting the cathodes cheap. the guy who I am getting them from rents right across the street from me. on his site (www.hardwarecooling.com (http://www.hardwarecooling.com/product_info.php/prod/528/Red_Cold_Cathode_Kit_Dual)) the catodes are cheaper then oznium and thats with out me getting a dizcount. I have an email out to him just waiting to hear back. he is usally at his "shop" shipping every day so I can walk there and talk to him. I will keep every one posted

Would there be an easy way to mount some led strips under the spoler in that little indention and have it light up in the pic with the brakelights? I tink you could route the wires inside the spoiler to inside the runk but then what do they connect to?

cherrington17
04-21-2008, 11:50 AM
i think i'd be pretty hard to get then INSIDE the spoiler. unless you mounted them on the underside... which would look lame. (very visible) but if you managed to, you could just connect the wires to the same power/ground as the 3rd brake light. should be 12V.

Yea. Im thinking ill take off my spoiler(i put it on so itll be easy) drill a hole in the bottom of one of the mounting places and in the side of the indention that runs along the bottom of it, then drill a hole in the trunk, then run it down to the 3rd brake light, so it lights up under the spoiler like in the pic!

As long as any brake lights on the back of the car are red and not any other color, it's perfectly legal.

Ok, now. I was reading about making all 4 lights turn on in the back, how do i do that exactly? What wires go where?

Ok heres the deal before s**t starts here

I have not made one of these lights tenspeed over at gagt made one and i saw it talked to my neighbor and got a deal on the lights and thought I would pass it on. I am not making money on the lights. and I do know how to do this mod I am sure it isn't nearly as hard as putting 65 leds as a brake light.

just making it clear

thanks

lights will be here on fri shippin them out on sat/mon

here is a pic of what needs to be done to the brake light to fit the cold cathodes. Dremel or roto zip is the tool to do this job

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh198/YALEROYNOT/0425081853.jpg

and one more install pic. now I have 65 red leds that I need to use hmmmm ?

I HAVE ONE RED AND TWO BLUE I NEED TO SELL SOME OF THESE GUYS

So you have to dremel out some of the housing??? Sounds like LEDs are easier to install since all you have to do is glue them to a piece of wood or something that fits in the original housing, then just run the wires out the back... no modifications to the housing, so you can go back to stock if you need to.

I can go back to stock just scew the three bulb holder on and plug it in. I just go my car inspected and the 65 led light I made was on the fritz so I thru the stock bulbs in and got it inspected. then installed this when I got my cat back. I prob never will go back to stock if this dont work I will make something new.
