it`s been a long 3 yrs in the garage, i had allot of great one off ideas, but i sold all my parts, and went back to stock well almost
the past 2 weeks has been super buisy,
1. played mechanic, new brakes, tuned it up, changed oil
2. installed the new easystreet struts
3. finished the fenders/and primed
4. tonight put the wheels on, got it off the jack stands, and moved it for the first time in 3 yrs!!!
5. installed the interior
it feels great, it runs like a champ, no engine lights heat works, a/c still blows cold, no problems with the air ride no leaks
but i have to cut the pinch weld on the upper rail the car is sitting on the tire, eeeekkkkk
i still have allot of body work to do , the doors are at work, then the hood, then i will get the rest of my stuff from scott,
1. need new tires
2, need new muffler
3, insure the car again
4, re plate the car
5, get wheel alignment
then drive it, sell it, i hope it sells
well here are some pics of the way it sat tonight, iam beyond pumped, and it will be done soon enjoy the pics

my question is why has it been 3 years?????????
I don't know the circumstances, but I guess one word can answer it correctly: priorities.
bdyman
04-24-2008, 08:42 PM
correct, iam a single dad, she is first, job was shitty, then i got a new job, garage broken into , lost interest for a while, totaled my daily driver, bought the grand prix, but now iam really motivated, all the parts have been sold, its mechanically sound, all thats left is body work, get wheel alignment, re plate it, insurance, and enjoy it until it sells
and use the money to get my daughter and my self out of the shitty town i live in, is that a good enough explanation for ya??
Oldsman
04-24-2008, 10:05 PM
good idea, chris get out of that shit town. you should move out here;)

the engine cradle is 1/4` from teh ground, once i get a wheel alignment i might get more out of it but its doubtful

small update,
both doors are completely done, interior is completely done, upper rails are done, fenders and rocker molding are on for good, hood is done and on the car, scott brought the front bumper to me that will be done next week
car is running great, i just need to install and modifiy the fender liners, iam having a small problem with the tires clearing the fenders, that will be fixed when i install the bumper, once the front end is completely done all i have left is to finish the ass end, buy tires, wheel alignment, von dutch is coming over to stripe the car, and have a new exhaust system, ole skool exhaust scott gave me an idea that will be finishing touch to the car
so i might have a new magnaflow muffler for sale

YALEROYNOT
08-16-2008, 08:28 AM
nope no paint for me this time, just primer and pin stripped
here are some pics from last night
did you put reinforcement under the head lights to stop it from getting wavey ?
I also like to work with plastic/fiberglass its interesting and fun. I also like the melting metal tho (is part of my job). I have this heater control project hanging over my head that needs to get done. I am thinking of making side skirts for my car. like these
http://www.importtrenz.com/v3/catalog/image.php?type=P&id=18158
looks nice very smooth. you going with gray primer ?
bdyman
08-16-2008, 10:55 AM
so... fiberglass for metal on metal (or weld) and bondo for plastic?
never bondo on plastic, plastic welding, plastic adhesives, like 3m of fusor products, plastic reinforced patches for strenght, as i go along on the bumper i will post pics of the work so you guys see how plastic is repiared/customized the correct way
and yes grey primer its ppg`s ncp271 which is a high build corrosive protected primer, and no worries at all it would take yrs for this primer to fade and or to chaulk up and loose all properties
as i built the pockets i welded to the rear body panle, and the other fab work on the 1/4 is just exterior sheet metal for commetics, nothing was strutually cut to impose the strenght of the car
and when its ready for primer i am goin to go inside and put pillar foam to keep things quite, seam sealer around joints, 3m makes a seam sealer in a tape form which will be reinstalled in the trunk gutter, when its done its goin to look like the factory made it like this
von dutch style stripes, loud exhaust, and one crazy tattooed polak driving
cherrington17
08-16-2008, 11:08 AM
ok... so.. what is bondo used for?? all i ever hear is "don't use bondo for this, this, or that..."
(pardon my body work ignorance. )
bdyman
08-16-2008, 12:15 PM
body filler is used over metal, fiberglass, and aluminum, applying over aluminum a sealer has to be applyied first then bondo can be slung
bondo can be used to shape fiberglass like making boxes, fiberglass enclosures, bondo has come along way from the lets say 80`s, it is easier to sand easier to sling,
not safer to breath unforutnely, doesnt shirnk like the old stuff used to, it is a polyurathene based product hence the easier to apply, we do use fiberglass or duramix sometimes to shape first, a company called evercoat makes some of the best filler out there, especially there glaze, its called metal glaze, can be brushed on, again its a polyurathene based product the old red glaze is a polyethylene based product which was nothing but a headache,
it swelled up shrunk up, no matter if it was finished in 320, it never dried , in the late 90`s is when the products changed due to osha and the epa, so another product made by evercoat is called all metal, it sjust like fiberglass but its all metal, another great product
bondo when used correctly will last the life time of a car, bondo today is not porus like it used to be, so when i sling bondo on my car or any car for that matter i know i will have no worries becasue the metal is preped and the product i sling will last

I just got a gal of rage gold at www.eastwoodco.com (http://www.eastwoodco.com/) they have a retail store about 20 min from me. its great stuff and isn't terriable expensive at $40 a gal.
its a cool store and cool people that know there sh**. they have a pin stripe kit on sale right now ( if you do it your self )
when it comes to filler cheaper is not better at all. get good products and it will last (if its aplied right)

if anyone wants anything customized that requires plastic let me know
build me a set of plastic wheels that can support at least 3600 pounds and paint them a gunmetal color.. also make them able to withstand extreme temperatures.
and sell them to me for a rediculously low price.

how much will you be planing on asking for it or is that a time to come thing
bdyman
09-05-2008, 08:15 AM
thanks everyone glad you like it , andy your always welcome to my house just call me
i will be asking 7,000, if it does not sell i will drop the price, it only has 43,000 on her
anyway, plastic welding is hard to explain online it one of those things i would have to show you in person to really get the full effect of the technique, the main thing is using the same plastic rods to weld with
use teo rod to teo plastic, our bumpers are tpo so i used a tpo rod
the plastic has to be grinded lightly grinded the rest is hard to explain i would have to make a video of the process lol
no paint this time, primer and pin stripes, the exhaust iam hoping my guy can do will be almost a side pipe dumping to the ground using a magnaflow muffler
more pics soon

seriously, I don't get why you just dont paint it while it isn't all together yet. Wouldn'T it raise the resale value? I mean, the buyer would have to take all the windows out againt and lights and everything to paint.
I say you paint it Flat black and call it Stealth bomber :ninja:
BTW, that work on the rear end is pure sex bud. Good job.
undecided02
10-04-2008, 11:38 AM
What are your color ideas for the car anyway?
bdyman
10-04-2008, 01:01 PM
its a matter of money right now, were slow at work, and i have about 500 dollars in material, that i need to pay off, yes i get material cheap,
but it would take 500-1,000 to get the car painted, and right now i cant afford to paint the car
iam a single parent and have other bills to pay it will stay primer and striped until i can afford to paint the car
and when i paint the car, i wil make my own hood first, i will do silver and either a blue from honda or a blue from gm, i could do ppg`s custom colors but again very expensive, and i will have a graphic to break up the 2-tone, i made a green that would look awesome with the color combo
plus winter is coming and iam goin to store the car for the winter,
dont think becasue its in primer the car was hacked or slammed out just to finish it, not at all, ive been building cars way to long and know what iam doing and i know i didnt hack my own car lol
iam a very dertmined person and when i commit to something i get it done no fuckin around with me, i have been workin until midnight to get the car done, contacting people to help me get it done,<my mechanic, my striper, my exhaust guy, my matco guy used to be a mechanic so hes been scanning my car so i can fix it, and some people on here have been helping allot too and to everyone a thank you isnt enough i owe them big time
in closing i love the ole skool look, in primer or painted the car will grab attention where i go with it, i built it i own it, and until there is snow on the ground iam goin to enjoy driving my car

Its good news if maybe you intend to keep the car :)
I was not trying to say that you were haxing the job. I can really see all the hard work you put in what you do. Theres nothing half-done there. Its only because you said it would stay primed and was wondering why if you were thinking of selling the car.
Thx for the update :)
P.S. No doubt it will attract attention even if its only on primer.

love it. only thing that bothers me a little are the creases under the wing.. id flatten them.. andd i think you should of stayed with the aids body kit to have those sharp edges to go along with the wing but i do love the way you did the rear license plate holder. very nice. now get it done hurry up!

hopefully it doesnt crack on you.jk i really like the tailight idea, The spoiler looks good but I think i would like it more if it didnt come to a point but it looks like your doing a good job on it. i was also wondering are u putting a 3rd brake light in the trunk or the back of window?

ok the only other thing that would make it perfect after everything.... a s/c kit... that would make the car prob one of the more sicker Alero's runnin the streets

thats part of the reward for doing the work so i'd guess no.
he`s right, i dont mind it at all, i like talking to people about cars, so when i hear it looks great, makes me feel good
ya know when i was selling everything i felt no remorse what so ever, yes the kit would have looked great, but then again everyone on here has that kit, and when i go to a show oh look another car with a body kit on it
so i kinda in a way built my own, shaved the front, and frenched the rear, and its all plastic, just by looking at it people will say mine dont have that or wow that`s different
building a custom car is about being different, custom does not come in a box as the old saying goes, no 3rd brake light for me i have no worries about gettin pulled over, if i do i can bullshhit my way out of it
the sc/t kit belongs on the grand am not the alero, again i think it takes away from the alero body lines, and what i did it wouldnt look right at all
the body work wont crack, the materials i used are corrosion resistant, i used etch prime before i slung anything so iam not worried about it cracking off, and its not that thick at all, so no worries
thanks again everyone for liking what i have created

you cant mold a plastic bumper to sheet metal....idk why everyone thinks that will work....it will end up cracking and looking like ASS.
Looks good!!!! Its actually out of the garage:eek:;) Im excited to see what it will look like when the tails go in!!!!:yahoo:

How are you going to take care of the primer?? Won't it get chalky. I've considered painting my car a flat midnight blue, (http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/hrf219.aspx)but I'm worried about what it will look like in the long run. Do you have a clear coat sprayed on top or does that defeat the purpose?
Any insight would be appreciated. It's obvious you definately know alot just by looking at your car.

what are the color plan for the striping ? burnt orange would look nice on the gray. you just letting the striper run with it work his/her magic ?

10-13-2008, 11:11 PM
well the primer i use is ncp 271 by ppg of course, as the fading the chaulking it would take yrs for this primer to show any sign of wear and tear
i dont plan on driving in the snow or rain, so it will be all good no worries no problems
all i need to do is wipe with a wet chamios, or towel, and iam all good, the stripe color well iam goin with the " oldskool" name, colors are up to him, he can do his magic, but i do have updated pics from tonights work
