First time out to run this year...... the last few weeks, my tranny was acting like it was just about ready to give up the ghost, shifting at different rpms than before, had kind of a mushy feel on the road, etc. But I had been experimenting with different tuning programs, wherein I had changed the entire PCM at one point, and threw a new set of injectors into the mix. I couldn't get the injectors to work, put the 28 lb. ones back in, and went back to my "standard" 2001 Alero program.

Then, I took the car in for a tranny flush at Mike's shop (previous owner of kwhauck's Alero) and watched the grey sludge that probably used to be clutches get transfused with clean fluid.....it did not look promising. So, with an event coming up Sunday 27th, I figured it best to get it to the track and force the issue...later that day:

Test and Tune, April 23, '08 (Bandimere Speedway) (Elev. 5860 ft, temp. 70-80 deg. F.)

Air filter bypassed, Malibu wheels (front and rear), D.R's, Stock LS1 MAF, Full exhaust, spare tire and floor mats removed, iced IC, 9-10 lbs boost.

1) 14.202 @ 96.77, 2.115 60 ft.
2) 14.095 @ 98.74, 2.133 60 ft.
3) 14.074 @ 97.09, 2.097 60 ft.
4) 14.133 @ 98.38, 2.160 60 ft.
5) 14.055 @ 98.05, 2.128 60 ft.
6) 14.118 @ 98.29, 2.162 60 ft.
7) 14.388 @ 97.56, 2.241 60 ft.

It seems to be holding up, not too bad for running full exhaust. Tomorrow, I'll run it balls out as far as boost and timing, but the torque management will stay in. (something's gotta break)

232 timeslips and counting...........

Not bad for high elevation. What's so bad about running a full exhaust? If it's free flowing, there shouldn't be a problem.

only thing i can think of it is that it lessens the back pressure

Wow, didn't relise anyone lived in Co. Maybe in Jan, when i'm home again, we will have to meet. I'd like to see the alero.........but as for those times, they are pretty impressive, wish my alero could run times like that.

he ran mid 13s before on low elevation, if you guys read there was a lot of stuff wrong and he's trying to break it to fix/upgrade what breaks lol. still great times, even these would be NHRA corrected as mid to low 13s.

Whaddya mean? We're talking a whole tenth of a second here, or even as much as 13 hundredths... that's huge!
That's for the muffler, which is all I ever remove to open the exhaust. The CAT might be even more, but it is not removable.
