Tranny problems

Well, I dunno but feels like my tranny is slipping. Seems to be between 1st and 2nd at slow speeds. Evey so often at higher speeds. I'm going to bring it to the shop to have them test drive it and go from there. Can someone give me a good description of a tranny that is slipping? What exactly should I be looking for? It also slams into gear from park to drive sometimes.

slipping is defined as when the transmission is shifting into the next gear it takes time for it to catch, you will notice your rpms climbing depending on how bad the slip is........your saying it slams into gear from park to drive, whats the rpm when your doing that, that sounds like something a car does when its idling high, maybe your trannys taking a poop?? If you dont have warranty I would suggest flushing the tranny fluid, changing the filter and putting some new stuff in and driving it for a week and see how that works for you......

mine did that when I 4got to plug the harness of my MAF sensor back in (oops) it was shifting REAL hard and SLAMMING into drive from park..like violently, i was scared...so i called my chevy dealership and the guy said it sounded like it doing what GM's do sometimes if there's a computer read error and that is that the car goes kind of into a DEFAULT mode where it'll still RUN, but not efficiently..it helps incase of a computer error, ur whole car isnt TOTALLY screwed....he told me it to check all my harnesses and so i popped the hood and noticed the MAF harness just chillin (to my embarassment) to i plugged it in and let the car run for about 30seconds and everything was perfect again!...I am not saying you 4got to plug something in, it's just that im saying that it might NOT be ur tranny....mine was shifting real violently in all gears and everything and i could have sworn i did somethin to the tranny but it turned out it was a result of ONE stupid plug.

Mine is starting to slip. My Check Engine Light came on and i used a Scan Tool on it and it read my HO2S- P0131 (O2 Sensor) which i replaced with a new one, but the light came back on and i have no clue what could be wrong except normal wear on the tranny. Anyone have the same problem. At around 2.5RPMs in third its slipping then from 3rd to 4th its slipping, or lagging, i don't know which. Anyone having the same problem. I have only $68,500 miles.

throw ur car in neutral, rev it to about 5 grand, then slap it into reverse.

Two week my tranny started to shift out of 1 and 2 real hard at low speed. Like throw you into the window hard. The trac off light came on, so I thought I had a tranny or hub problem, but on my way to the dealership to have them look at it my check engine light cam on. They pulled the code at the dealership and it was high voltage was registered in the main wiring harness and fired some wires and another part. I had it fixed ($122.20US out the door) and have not had any problems since.

i had pretty harsh shifts from first to second ever since i got the car, got it brand new, not as harsh as j-work's, but it's also at low speed and slow acceleration, but if i do a quick acceleration it's usually smooth, ive got close to 60k miles on it now, no lights have ever come on... ???

Mine slips, it comes and goes though, and lately it's been pretty bad, it used to only do it in the winter when cold but it's been doing it again more frequently and it's quite warm out now so... I'm not sure what to do about it, I guess I should see what the dealership has to say even though they're probably sick of me coming in every goddamn month it seems, it's not really my fault... :P

It seems to only "slip" or have trouble finding the gear when it does a kick down from like 2nd into first, like say I'm coasting down to a stop sign, and when I get there I hit the gas, it'll hesitate and it feels like it's "skipping" for about a second, then it catches the gear and finally goes. Very annoying especially if you're pulling out in front of traffic and you need to go NOW, not 2 seconds from now. :rolleyes:

Slipping and what some of you have discribed are too differnt things...
Slipping is where the rpm of your motor go's up, and your speed dont increase... this is harder to diagnose on an auto...
For an auto tranny slip test... one way is to stop, leave the car in gear... left foot the brake... and give it some gas... this way you will be able to see how much your tranny will slip.. because your not moving... your rpms should come no higher than say.... 2-2300rpms.... (my buddy had a daytona that would rev to 3500-4500 like this, his tranny was foked) when you do this your whole drive train should torque up, it may feel verry vilolent.... this is normal becasue you are applying a lot of torque from the engine to the wheels... thru the tranny but with the brakes applyed...

Annother easy way is to stop.. and then do a hard take off... and see how high the rpms come up b4 they stop climbing faster than your speed... they should move together...

What some of you have described is "hunting" where the tranny is looking for the right gear... when it takes time to move... and hesitates... can be caused by other things...

But with these cars and all the computer garbage, it could easly be something computer related.

But if your car has quite a few k on it.. then doing a flush/re&re on the fluids isnt a bad idea

Mine is definitely slipping, i'm going to flush the transmission oil and replace it with some nice pennzoil stuff, and ofcourse a new filter. Hopefully that'll do the trick, it's not slipping bad, i just think theres junk in the fluid and it needs to be changed, or should have been a couple thousand miles back.

last night mine started slipping after installing my CAI, i'm gonna check the maf today, i know it's connected, but maybe i need to reseat the plug or something.

when i'm driving in first, it takes a long time to hit second, and if i floor it from dead stop, it'll redline waaaay before it shifts.

anyone else's doing this?

tried some lucas transmission fix, so far so good, but hard to tell yet, because sometimes it slips and sometimes it doesnt, it might just be "off" right now.

if you have a true tranny slip, a fluid change will make the slip worse.. the buildup in the tranny almost becomes the thing holding it together.. that's what I learned with a tranny slip on my buick ('89 Park Avenue @ 150K)

thats why i didnt change my fluid, the lucas stuff i put in was really thick, it's not slipping anymore either.
