The timeless preferential debate. Whatchoo think? I'm just curious on the demographics of what people think the Alero looks better as.

I have a coupe, and it was the shit when I bought it, but as I've grown (read: gotten OLDER), I've developed a preference for sedans, the Alero included.

jackal2000
05-27-2008, 12:38 PM
im pretty sure all aleros are actually sedans (read: definition of sedan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedan)). obviously this debate is two door or four door preference and mine is two door.

[ion] C2
05-27-2008, 12:47 PM
^wow that's dumb. I've always, in every context, known sedan = 4 doors, coupe = 2 doors.

EHHH Wikipedia, Not the most credible source. I once made the mistake of citing that on a Econ paper man i got marked down.

The term "sedan" refers to a fixed-roof car with at least four doors or any fixed-roof two-door car with at least 33 cubic feet of rear interior volume, according to measurements based on SAE standard J1100
Do we have 33 cubic feet or rear interior volume?

Ion, I must say that in the back of an alero, theres definitively more legs space than in my 1986 camaro

Its pretty roomy in the back for a 2 door.

And I vote for coupe as my preference (although my door fixture doesnt think the same thing than me, but who cares!)

cherrington17
05-27-2008, 02:20 PM
i'll ignore the lexicon arguments.... and say i'm partial to the 2 door. but i'm young w/o a family. If i had kids, i'd definitely opt for the 4 door.

Coupe...way more sporty and nice lines. Only time I want a four door is when people are climbing in and out the back, but I am always driving so sorry for them.

i 2nd that... i don't know what kinda lame game your throwing down, but there isn't much room there at all... (maybe your both smaller)

and the coupe's backseat isn't that roomy with both seats all the way back maybe i just have a bunch of friends w/ long legs....

4 door for me !! lust the fact that you don't expect the car to have the power it dose with four doors and full leather ;) (cough..sleeper) . so my vote is 4 door sedan.

I love almost all gm larger bodied cars.(caddys, impalas, malibus) :scpimp:

The trunk is pretty roomy too! You can fit a lot of... things back there.

i'm surprised it's 50/50, figured the coupe would overtake it but not by much, maybe 2/3 for coupes

I voted sedan cuz thats all Ive had and I like the fact I can seat my friends comfortably there. As for looks, I think if you want to fix it to look sporty (hood scoop, gunmetal rims, carbon fiber) you should get the coupe, but if you want to fix it all luxurious (wood interior, leather) go sedan. Just my opinion though.

i own a sedan and wish everyday that it was a coupe. IMO, the alero seems more designed to be a coupe with the sedan as an afterthought and yeah. I like the way the window lines are on the coupe and i think it makes the car much less of a grandma car.

I voted for the sedan but not only because I own one. I had a choice of 3 Aleros and 2 GAs when I bought mine.

The 2 GAs - one sedan & one coupe - I just do not like the over all exterior design (nor the colors of those 2) plus they did not overall run as well as the Alero I bought. Both were V6s.

The 3 Aleros - 2 sedans & one coupe - the other sedan I did not buy was white, a V6, & did not run as good as the 4 cylinder I did buy plus the leather interior was showing wear, and the silver coupe was a V6 and also did not run as good. I chose the one I did because of it's color, I liked the overall roof line better, and the fact that it ran better than the 4 V6s. Yeah, I know many of you will say the V6 runs better but you did not test drive the 5 cars I did.

To me, the 4 door Alero roof lines looks less out place than to the 2 door coupes which appear to be chopped short. It's just my personal opinion and preference ... like all of you have.

Apparently no one can comprehend this concept. The fact is, that just like meadus101 said, whatever you like better, is whatever you should get. Also, not EVERYONE thinks that all Aleros should be lowered, have a kit installed, and the corners cleared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO WHATEVER THE H*LL YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The alero is a great car 4 or 2 door, but if you look at original concept designs the concept is a coupe with a V6. I have a coupe myself, but I have noticed more 4 doors than the coupes. But the coupe has more of a traditional oldsmobile performance look to it. Thats my opinion however.

I like the 4 door for practical purposes like insurance. I agree the the coupe is nicer looking in general but for us older farts they're a little impractical. Plus a sedan has 2 times the leather :<).

Kilroy
06-01-2008, 10:55 PM
The way I have always noticed the choice between coupe and sedan, is that the younger, single crowd tend to gravitate toward the coupe for the style. When I was in high school, a sedan was always a "parent's" car. It is also dependant on hte manufacturer's intend style of the vehicle. Have you ever seen a four door Corvette? a four door Camero or Firebird? No, and I doubt you will.

Now, the Alero has that distinct ability to fill both roles. As a four door, it can very easily fit the "parent" role as a four door vehicle for transporting kids. (precisely the reason I have the four door model).

Also, as a two door coupe, it can easily be made to look and feel sporty. I have seen many of the mods on here, and they are awesome.

So, I guess i am trying to say that the Alero has the ability to be both a good sedan, and a good coup. It just depends on what kind of car you want. neither is better than the other, it just up to the individuals taste.

Suicide doors on the sedan would rock lol. Sedan 1 Coupe 0 >_<

I'm not single, but I don't have kids. Yet, I like the sedan more because of the extra space. There is always that time "Party go-go" and if you have to pick a couple buds and gals up, um, a coupe won't kinda be an easy in easy out transportation choice. I like the coupe more to be honest, but I wouldn't trade my sedan for one (Unless, maybe it was loaded or something lol)

But in any case, any car can be made to look nice, inside and out, it all depends on your taste. A sedan could be tricked out, not riced, to humiliate a coupe, and vice versa. It's all personal taste, time, and *Cough* Cash *cough* If you have this, knock your coupe or four-door out and be happy.
