I think its for the warning chimes. Those beeps that sound when your car starts or when it needs something. Not required, its up to you if you want them or not. :)

you definitely don't HAVE to

and for 150 I definitely wouldn't

I'd go to a different store if they're telling you that

i'm not sure why people are spending $150-200 on getting the wiring harness for their aftermarket headunits. order from Crutchfield or CarDomain (if they still sell them there), they include it for free. who cares about the door chimes

I didn't need it, I had the 99 Oldsmobile radio on there and when I installed the new one, I just wired it.

im not sure if it affects the passlock system tho i had problems with my security light being on at all times i plugged the stock head unit back in tonight and it went off

I've noticed that sometimes when I start the car, the chimes will sound a few times, and sometimes maybe a different number of times. Does the number of chimes correspond to anything? Some kind of error code? I was thinking of disconnecting the speaker in the BCM, cause it's so dam annoying.

lol. 150 for a harness? No.. I got the dash kit and harness for like 20 dollars at the local audio shop. the chimes are there to what? tell you your door is open and your key is in, I think if you just put it in there you know, if you leave your headlights on. get into the habit of checking the selector or the car, low gas. like you cant see the gauge,.. Don't waste your money on one. just get the cheap one that works. Crutchfield wanted to make me buy a 75 dollar harness and shit when I could have got a different one it made me pay for it instead of getting it for free. they are a rip

i got the relocation kit, that was like $30, and then connected the "chime" wires to a computer tower speaker, that i stuffed into my center console. now my chimes come from there. as the driver i can hear them, but you barely can anywhere else in the car.

Screw the chimes.... I haven't had my chimes since 2002... the only thing is get the right screen. You want one that sounds good and doesn't have to have a toggle switch.

well, supposedly, the original stereo has the controls for the air bags as well as the door chimes. there is something else in there i just cant think ok it. i would just go to walmart and buy the one they sell there for 49 bucks. that keeps all the original settings.

Ya, 2001 and up have a bunch of things that works thru the radio. Ive heard of Airbags and chime as well. I'd say the passlock also, but I'm really not sure.

Man... I bought a Harness at Wally World and Wired it up... No Chimes, which isn't all bad, but I miss them.

I miss the RAP hardcore.

And I crowd the wheel, So if the airbag goes, It's gonna fuck me up anyways, So i'm hoping they don't work.
I can't fit between the Wheel and the windshield ANYWAY. So i'm hoping i'll be fine.

Lol. the only thing that goes through the radio is the chimes and it saves the radio presets if you have a factory radio, by keyfob
