So the hood on the 'ho needs to be repainted, due to a bad weld on GM's part. Of course since I have 72,000 miles, it isn't covered by the corrosion warranty, because there isn't a hole in the sheet metal. And will GM stand behind their work and help me out at all? No. Just like the intake gasket.

This morning, I'm washing the car, think I see a little bump on the driver's rear quarter panel. Oh yes, it's rusting. An area almost the size of a quarter, all bubbled up. It's right in the middle of a smooth painted area. Makes me cringe to think what the parts that don't show could look like.

I've had this car since I bought it new in June 2000. It's been outside most of the time, but I still take care of it. Anyone else have a problem like this?

Seeing as you live in Michigan and you mentioned that you leave the car outside, I'm betting that all the salt it sees during the winter, which is probably, what, 4 or 5 months out of the year for you? That certaintly isn't helping you.

There isnt' much you can do about preventing it. The only real thing I can think of is washing your car often during the winter, and getting an under car wash to help get rid of some of the salt build up.

I have the same problem, I was washing my car yesterday too and a little bit of the paint chipped off on the hood. I have to see how much this is going to cost.

Actually, it spent its first 3 winters in the UP where they don't use salt. I always kept the salt washed off when I did get it on. The newest rust spot isn't anywhere salt would stick.

u think spots are bad..u guys should see my hood...the whole front of the hood, the paint is chipped up about 1/4 of an inch upwards...inside the doors, the paint just falls off when i close my door, and now they're rusted too...it's a piss off sure, but the way i look at it, i'm gettin it painted next year so it's not so bad...

I've got a similar problem to the bad weld and rusting. The front edge of my hood is very close to peeling up and its cracked in a few spots there.

Fortunately my dealer spoke to the area GM rep. and was told that although my car is 3.5 years old because of my low mileage(kilometerage??) 51000Km GM would cover half of the cost.

I was told that the labour to dig out/redo the weld, plus paint etc. would be around $500-600 CDN so my cost would be $250-300, plus I've got some rust coming up on the piece by the window, dunno what its called but its black on every alero and that would be around $100 CDN installed. It seems that the unnamed part for the window area is just a replacement, they wont even try and fix it.

if the area ur talkin bout around the window is same as mine, i know what ur talkin bout...on my driver side door, there's a huge rust bubble comin out...

and ur lucky that they're gonna cover half the cost...i know they wouldn't for me becuz it's a 2000, and i put on like 40 000km's in the one year i had it...ah well...nothin i can do bout it..so no use in whining even more...
