View Full Version : Which Would Look Better?

Ok, My birthday is coming up, and I was wondering everyone's opinion on which would look better...

Spring Tech Lowering Springs? about 130+installation

or

Razzi Spolier about 280 painted and shipped from spoilerdepot.com

First, i dont think the spring install can be much more than 150.. can it? so they are both the same price. My car exterior wise is stock Tropic Teal.

Also, the Razzi is a bolt on, correct? Because i ordered a spoiler replacement from spoilerdepot.com and it was a PITA to get on, because it didn't fit correctly.

I attatched a pic of my car.. (the pin stripe is gone) and those are 15" rimz

i would say springs.

the razzi spoiler doesn't line up with factory bolt holes so you would need to fill the factory holes, repaint trunk, drill and mount razzi spoiler.

spoiler b/c you still have stock rims, when you get new rims then get new springs

Naich
05-18-2004, 10:53 AM
yeah go with the springs.

Steve03TropicTeal
05-18-2004, 11:04 AM
tha razzi doesnt line up with existing holes? damn.. forget that.

cost to fill holes, then get the trunk and spoiler repainted would be pretty damn high..

wouldnt it?

If anyone else has any good appearance mod suggestions for about 300 and under, let me know!

ok, im pretty good with mechanical stuff, but i dont have an impact gun OR spring compressor..

The directions on this site seem very good, the job doesnt look too bad.

Do places Rent out this equipment? (AutoZone, HomeDepot).

Id hate to pay Belle Tire or wherever 150 bucks or more to do something i can do myslef in a day....

go with the springs dog... it will help to shorten the gap you have from your 15" rims...

You can get a factory imitation spoiler for under 100 unpainted. Of course the springs go first though. Stock Aleros just dont sit right in my opinion, but its also a performance thing too. Your car will handle a lot better. You'll be taking those corners like a pro boy! I'm telling you. So if you go with the springs you an get the factory style spoiler too all for a little over 300.

Autozone will rent out the spring compressors for sure. About the impact im not sure. You should be able to rent one from somewhere. The job can be done with a ratchet it will just take a while.

Honestly, I'd take that 300 and get you and CAI.

$300 for a CAI?!?!?!? wtF??...no, definitly go w/ springs (and struts too if u wanna keep a good ride quality)

sound_xtreme
05-18-2004, 01:57 PM
you could make your own CAI for like 40 bucks.

Everyone but me, I guess. I couldn't get to work if my car was lowered. Detroit + springs = busted up car.

The tire can hit the inside of the wheel well with a serious drop and big blingy wheels...

You should be ok, so long as you measure for the tires and rims.

u think detroit is bad? u should see northern ontario roads...it's like the government don't even know we still here...

back to the point, i wasn't generalizing...i was just sayin that most do because it looks like a 4X4...but in ur avatar, yours doesn't look that bad anyways

if you have a budget of $300 go with springs and a CAI...you'll handle better and sound better

Steve03TropicTeal
05-18-2004, 08:05 PM
heres the thing with the CAI.

the 2.2 isnt fast... All my friends drive fast cars, and everyone would rip on me if i got a CAI.

U gotta get a lot of money to make it fast.. even 10hp (which i know i wont gain from CAI) wouldnt help really.

Im primarily interested in Looks.

As far as MI roads.. I dont drive in Detroit too often, i dont think lowering will be THAT much of an issue.... Will it?

Can i get 18's after i lower? Or just 17's?

do 18's and lowering cause rubbing?

THanks for the input.. Springs seem to be winning so far. I found out one of my buddy's has 2 spring compressors. Yousaid i could do it with a rathet? my car is onlt 16k miles.. so the rust and stuff shouldnt be too bad.

Sundayalero
05-18-2004, 09:50 PM
Yeah bro, Get the springs, and the 18s (they wont rub but make sure the offset is between 38 and 43 - right guys?) and you'll be lookin sweet.
Then take some pics so we can see.

Steve03TropicTeal
05-18-2004, 10:11 PM
i already spent about 1k on my sound system so the rimz wouldnt be until next spring (the season).

but the springs are a storng possiblity for this summer.

99blackalero
05-18-2004, 10:18 PM
who cares what your friends think..it helps in the performance of your engine....and what fast cars do your friends drive that would entitle them to make fun of u?

Steve03TropicTeal
05-18-2004, 10:27 PM
d00d Alero's arent fast w/o serious modz. Im not trying to make a ast car.

WRX, evo 8, Grand Prix GTP.. GT mustangz

people rip on tha Alero all the time lol.

They ripped on my GAGT and my Monte SS for being slow.
Its tru tho, none of those cars i just listed are sports carz by any means. Gm as crap for sports cars besides vette and GTO now it seems.

so, in summary Aleroz arent even as v6 Mustangz without at least 500 in exhaust and intake.. and even then who knows. My planz are all show, and no go!

99blackalero
05-18-2004, 10:32 PM
so my suggestion is do some interior upgrades as well if your budget is $300....gauges...etc...

Steve03TropicTeal
05-18-2004, 10:34 PM
which gauges are available. I kinda like the stock ones honestly. Dont really like white faceed for my application.

99blackalero
05-18-2004, 10:46 PM
check the pics of my ride for the halo gauges i have in my car, which you could probably find on ebay or go to www.speedhut.com , there you can have custom ones made for you

sound_xtreme
05-18-2004, 11:22 PM
um wheels shouldnt ever rub unless you dont have the right tire size or offset. even with 20s on and lowered you shouldnt rub unless you slammed it with coilovers or somethin.

Steve03TropicTeal
05-19-2004, 09:51 AM
not even when you turn will they rub?

oh, those gauges are pretty sweet looking. are they tough to install?

Nikatrel
05-19-2004, 10:04 AM
I'm not saying the damn car is fast. I'm saying take out of that $300 and buy you an intake simply because its a good mod to have. It sounds NICE, and improves gas mileage a little bit. Definately worth every penny if not just for the sound.

I would't get the springs simply because w/o rims, I just dont think it looks good.

Just my .2

even if he doesn't get rims, lowering it will give it a more aggressive look...

Steve03TropicTeal
05-19-2004, 10:48 AM
wouldnt the dealership give me a ahrd time about CAI for any warranty issues?

they prolly have a less chance of noticing the springs... for any suspension stuff

wc_alero
05-19-2004, 11:36 AM
Thats not true ^^^^^^^^^^^

Just had my warranty claim denied because I adjusted the suspension by lowering it. I am still fighting with them though so we will see. They are denying replacing the rack and pinion.

ptrudel
05-19-2004, 12:03 PM
^ya, but do u have coilovers or just the springs?

Steve03TropicTeal
05-19-2004, 12:52 PM
that sucks. i dont wanna get springs if it ruins the chance of getting warranty service on anything suspension related...

Naich
05-19-2004, 01:12 PM
well, if maintaining your warranty protection is your #1 priority, than modding can't be an option for you. They will always give car modders hard times with warranty work. You're better off leaving it stock I guess.

Or just get a wing. IMO it doesn't add much to the appearance with just a wing, except usually make a car look worse. But the Razzi wing alone is allright.

You're not going to get a really nice looking car by only changing the wing though. Maybe you can put that $300 away and get some rims later on?

Off topic but do the spring tech springs give the largest drop?

ptrudel
05-19-2004, 03:14 PM
i think between spring tech and sprint performance it's pretty close...i've got sprint performance ones, and they advertise 1.75"...i got a lil over 2" drop

BLK03GXS
05-19-2004, 05:11 PM
Do the springs... the cost of the wing would be higher than 300... and dont do nuttin..
The springs will make your car handel better...
And refrence the install you dont even need a spring compressor, or air tools you can do it all by hand... just get a freind to help

Redog

Springs

I had my mech do mine. He charged me $50 to do it. Any mech can do it.

I don't know about doing it by hand. The stock springs are under a lot of pressure. About 600 ft lbs worth. They could take your head off.

Steve03TropicTeal
05-19-2004, 07:45 PM
Springs dont mess iwth camber or your toe in/out or anything?

Nikatrel
05-19-2004, 11:20 PM
No one answered this for steve, so I will.

The CAI will not Void your warranty as far as I know.

Its a bolt-on. And if something happens, bolt it off, and deny all claims that you had one. :D

Like i said again, the CAI would be the best if your worried about warranties all around. Then save the rest toward some rims or window tint. (Unless ya already got tint).

-Nick :pimp:

Steve03TropicTeal
05-20-2004, 12:24 AM
heres tha thing with tha tint I want it bad, BUT i live in MI where you cant have ANY tint on front side windows.

And i hang out in suburbs of detroit where cops have nothing ebtter to do cept pull over kids in cars they think have illegal tint.

So id have to go dark in back and none in front or lighter in front.. which would look kinda dumb, i think.

they make a CAI for the 2.2 that is reasonable?

sound_xtreme
05-20-2004, 01:06 AM
so just go to the doctor and get a permit to have whatever tint you want on it. lol

Naich
05-20-2004, 01:08 AM
you don't need to worry about camber settings with a drop with springs.

Only worry about it if you get coilovers that drop you well more than 2".

However, you should get an allignment after you get springs.

Steve03TropicTeal
05-20-2004, 10:54 AM
The doctors note only works during the day.

If you have a car with tint and a doctors note, you cant drive it after dark.. Its crazy i know, but ive talked to optitricians about it. Or whatever they are called.

Just wondering.......anyone got a picture of a coupe with STOCK 15"s and a set of springs installed? If-so, please note what springs were used..... I'm thinking this is my next mod after mt Naich-supplied CAI gets here. Cheap, relatively easy, and big "bang-for-the-buck" factor...

flalero
06-09-2004, 05:02 PM
go with the springs. That was the second thing I did to my car, exhaust was first, of course. I have the springtechs, they ride stiff, but I like that sporty feel. You can kind of see the drop on my avatar. That is with the stock 16's, though.

AleroChick01
07-01-2004, 01:33 AM
This is sort of off topic but I went to price checking for springs a few weeks ago and the cheapest price I got was $550 for the springs and the installation + another $80 or so for an alignment. It might make a difference that the springs I asked about are Eibach. What brand of springs can you get for under $300 and what's a reasonable price for the install?

flalero
07-01-2004, 09:28 PM
I paid $150 for my springs shipped. I put them on myself, so their was no installation charge. I did pay about $60 for my alignment, though.
