View Full Version : Rear Speakers Not Working

My rear speakers work on and off sometimes and now are not working. I have a 1999 Alero GLS coupe. I have checked the wires that feed power to the speakers and they are sending power right up to the speakers. I think the speakers might be gone, but both the rears at the same time? Also it doesn't make sense that they work sometimes?

Does anyone have any ideas to why this is happening and if the speakers are blown how do I replace them. They cant come out from the trunk side. If anyone can help thanks!

there is a nice how to on here in the either how to or FAQ section on how to remove teh rear speakers.

You can blow both at once, and yes they can play just sometimes i would think.

Its not how it usually works though. maybe someone else can help more.

Thanks, and was it that hard to put new speakers in well what im saying is can someone who is new to audio systems put them in without any trouble?

And any 6x9 will fit in the rear right? Can anyone suggest some good speakers that aren't that expensive(best bang for the buck). Mostly i listen to rap or rock so i want some speakers that can be load and still have good bass. Thanks again

Its not to difficult at all.

Pioneer makes some good cheap 6x9s. by cheap i mean less than 120 or so. SHop around online and find a good deal.

A lot of poeple on here love infinity. They can be exspensive though. I have some Rockford Fosgate' that sound ok.

The biggest issue for sounding good or not is gonna be your deck. The stock deck doesnt put much power out so get a 6x9 with a high sensitivity rating. The higher it is the louder it will play compared to a spekaer with a lower sensitivity rating if they both have the same power.

crutchfield.com is a good website to do research. Thier prices are kinda hi though

JVC and Sony also make some decent speakers, although I always get a lot of people disagreeing with me about the sony's

Whoops.. Forgot to post my question..

I took the blown 6x9's (Yeah Mine too) to Fry's electronics and the dude said that I cant replace them since they are not compatable with any other 6x9's. so I've been rackin my brain trying to figure out what he meant.

Please someone post viable direct swap 6x9's, I'm tired of having only treble..

Thanks!

I think standard 6x9 fit dont they i think people might say they dont because the grills might not fit under the stock cover thing.

And by the way i want to spend 60-80 bucks because i only have the stock cd player now. Im thinking about getting a pair of pioneers for $58 they are the blue ones not sure the numbers i think there at walmart ha but i dont know.

well i can tell ya that other 6x9's will fit... and if its the base model deck (not monsoon) you should be good to go, i have heard that some ppl have had too cut some of the metal under the speaker mount on the parcel shelf to allow for bigger motor structures/magnets

Most base model/cheeper speakers should be a direct fit
Alpine s series, pioneer, sorny, jvc, jbl, etc...

I have the monsoon system. If I get Infinity 6x9's will they just plug right in? I think I read somewhere on this site that the wires or something is crossed. I'm still a little confused on this one.

This might be a stupid question but how do u know if u have a moonsoon system will it say it somewhere on the cdplayer?

Well there's a lot on this in antother thread.

But I'm fairly sure that there can be a couple ways to have the monsoon..

the way my car is configured is typically the easiest to recognize:
under the carpet in the left side of the trunk there's an amp that says MONSOON.

Yupp.. just check in your trunk on the drivers side, pull the carpet back, check that out.. should be an amp in there that says monsoon on it... if not then your good to go...
I dont beleave if you have the monsoon that its an easy swap to aftermarket speakers....
I think its accually a PITA.....
Because the amp is only for the low freqenceys.... and the high pass comes from the deck... so it makes it a byiotch

Rockford Fosgate 6X9's areVERY nice (i have a 600W Fosgate amp on them and they pound for 6X9's..people ask me if i have subs...not very BRIGHT people..but they still get attention)

The monsoon player has "monsoon" written on the front of it (at least teh ones in teh GAGT cuz my friend has one)...I MIGHT be wrong, but I didnt think Alero's had a monsoon system option..only the GA's did (but like i said, i could b wrong)

As far as installtion goes: You will need to run all new speaker wire to any aftermarket speakers if you DO have the monsoon system. I work at Best Buy (in car audio section) and I get people coming in all the time wanting aftermarket speakers for their Monsoon's. It's kind of a pain..i'd just pay Best Buy or someone to do it
