probably better than stock, but still aren't the greatest.

yeah i'm sure they aren't the greatest i figured i'd start my audio project with the cheap pair so when i'm putting in something permanent i won't have to modify. and just install it like stock. same with amp but there's an exception for the amp cause i know how important it is to have a really good deck and really good wires.

those will work a little better than stock if you have a factory stereo. but if you have a good aftermarket they are gonna sound slike crap when you turn it up cause they don't have a very high power rating.

Put your money up front.
Wait for Ryan's Post before you touch any audio.

Yeah 80 watts RMS is for the pair, so thats 40 watts RMS each, you're really not looking at that much. I had some nice (pricey) pioneer speakers and they sounded awesome compared to the stock config. I'd go with meadus101, put it all up front..

well i had just put some polk audio speakers up front and it sounds really clean. is there any special insructions to installling the 6x9s or is it ok to splice the wires?

The power driving those 6 x 9's is more important than the speaker upgrade itself... Upgrade to the jensens on a stock deck output and you probably won't notice too much... But if you put a 200w amp or so between your deck and your stock speakers, that would make a big difference.

not really on the stock paper speakers.
yes you wanna invest in a good pair of speakers and tweeters for the front to sound good, but you can't just forget about the back or take them out like some people. it just doesn't sound right.

The majority of top SQ competitors do not use rear fill. It is all in the front stage. A quality frontstage is the key to enjoying your music even more.
I guess using rear fill or not is just an opinion. Some people prefer it, yet others hate it. I got rid of mine when I started running 600rms up front on a pair of Boston Z6s.
Those Jensens would be perfect for a pair of rear fill speakers. Not too loud since they have a low power handling. Some people run stock rear fill just so the people in the back seat can have a little bit of music lol.

^ yea i agree with you the quality factor is all in the front, thats why that is where i put most my money. i just got cheap kicker ks60's in the rear. this might sound wierd but the sound just seems to "surround" me more and i like it better

For rear fill they aint even good.
If you want to do rear fill find a set of midrange 6X9's or a simple set of2 ways like the infinity ref's.
If you got good speakers up front and a stock radio, dont buy these 6x9's. Buy a head unit then get an amp for the front speakers. You will be happy you did. Its a better investment than crappy speakers.

well, i'm not investing in these speakers, just buying them to replace the stock ones. I plan to do upgrades later when money starts coming in

Well let me give it to you straight up and its blunt. not to sound like a jerk.
But these speakers arent really an upgrade. The best upgrade you can make is to just take out the 6X9's and forget they exist.
I can get pretty technical on the topic if you like- but for the sake of keeping it simple 6x9's in a rear decka re a total WASTE. Doesnt matter if they are $25 ones or $300 ones, still the worst investment in Car Audio... I wouldnt do it either, and Ive bought some fancy sets in my time. I spent $240 back in 1997 for a set... Not worth it man, trust me.

I don't get it. Why is it such a bad idea to put speakers in the rear? Wouln't it be a good idea to get an amp and power all the mid and high range speakers with it? That's how I had my delta and it sounded pretty nice. All my other friends with sound systems have it that way too. Up to now, I didnt even know people would work with the front only.

well.. one of my 6x9's in the rear deck dont even work.. and the only way I found out is one day I was testing the channels one by one to make SURE every speaker was working properly.. I couldnt even tell you how long the 6x9 was out because it never made any difference in sound..
remove them all together and make them 6x9 holes a subwoofer vent leading to a giant box with four 12's in it

07-28-2008, 07:33 PM
ooo that vent idea sure is good midgear. I hadnt thought of it that way. I now see your point. I could probably wire my other amp to the fronts only and get more bass through the 6x9 vents.
Midgear
07-28-2008, 07:45 PM
that was some sort of a joke.. but now that I think of it.. that'd be pretty bad ass O_o

07-28-2008, 09:28 PM
yeah but i have a buddy with the subs in the rear and only the fronts and it sounds like poop. plus with the midrange in the door and tweeters, isn't most of the bass coming from the 6x9 s? i use to have a 91 corolla and it had smaller than 6x9 in the rear. when i would get into a car with 6x9s it would sound way bettter
Valley olds
07-28-2008, 09:58 PM
jwateland, actually, If you get subs, all the bass will be coming from the subs rather than the 6x9's. As for your friends car, what was he running his front speakers to and what front speakers were they? Cus Im guessing that if he was running speakers to a weak power source, the subs would overpower it. I'm planning on running an amp that is around 100W RMS to the fronts only. Pair that with a nice set of tweeters in the front, and I think it should sound good. Thats just my opinion though, and I dont really know what your friend has. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

i meant using the 6x9s without subs, i was previously told the 6x9s are pointless.
Midgear
07-28-2008, 10:33 PM
now that you mention it.. a good deal of bass does come from the 6x9's ... but vs a subwoofer- no contest.. you'd be better off amplifying the front and puttin a sub in the back
Valley olds
07-29-2008, 12:31 AM
Oh, without subs, yeah, it probably would sound bad without the 6x9's. When I first got my car, I thought it had a stock sub or something, because there was nice bass coming from the back. It wasnt until I opened the trunk that I realized the 6x9's were making that bass.

If you don't use rear speakers and instead use them to vent, do you take off that plastic grill or just lave it on?

I dont know.. It'd be something to experiment with considering it hasnt really been done before lol...
or at least I dont think it has..

Well its not so much bad having speakers in the rear. Its the matter of location and overall tuning.
If you want rear fill speakers heres how it needs to be done:
-Speakers need to be as far back and as LOW as possible
-Speakers need to be attenuated to where you cant hear them over fronts
-Speakers need to be on opposite planes
-Speakers need to be run mono- wired to one amp channel
If your not set up this way and this way ONLY rear fill/rear speakers are not working in your best interest.
Actually guys taking 6X9's out to vent trunk to cabin is a well documented FACT. Anything you can do to allow the air from the trunk to flow easier into the cabin will help you out. As long as subs stay in the trunk you will still get cabin gain.

Ya thats the best.
But the 6 x 9x still hurt overall SQ and imaging of the system.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting I put the 6x9s in and they work well. if you don't have a system and you blew a 6x9 or if you want a $25 upgrade to your stock system then they work perfect. they fit perfect into factory harness requiring no drilling or screws.
