Tires!

Ok so i want to get some new 17" tires. and seeing as this is an Alero and everyone here, or at least most of everyone has one (big suprise) what kind of tires would i need? recommendations?

He's asking for a recommendation on what kind to get, not size, I think. 235/45/R17 is my size, for the record. As for what kind? Depends on a lot of variables: what is your driving style, what is your climate and road conditions, will you have winter tires also or will these be all-season, and perhaps most importantly, how much do you want to spend? I have some Hankook Ventus HRII right now and at $76/ea. (+mounting) for 17's, I think they are a good value. Favorite tires I've driven on were Toyo Proxes T1-S which I don't think they make any more. They have a very similar Proxes T1-R now. Toyo will cost a lot more.

People think I paid too much, but I like them great tire.

None of the BFG's in my size (225/45/17) were all season :ninja:

I have Federal Super Sports on mine... They came on em. And they're great in the rain, but I wouldn't reccommend them for Snow.

Goodyear Eagle RS-A have pretty good dry traction. Should do good on an Alero if they can hold back a 5.3 V8 in the Impala SS (or at leas they once your above 25 mph).

goodyears are horrible about belts breaking, so dont get that. Hankook makes a decent affordable summer tire but is by no means better than the rest, esp for all season.
prob Pirelli pzero nero (NOT P4's) which arent pricey or BF Goodrich G-force sport (kinda pricey)
Michelins are super nice but cost even more. But the pzero's or the g-force's have a great tread life and traction rating for their price range.

I dont know the exact price range for your size, but expect a little over 100 bucks each for the pirellis and 140ish for the BFG's. Michelin sport tires can range from high 100's - 200's.

Im a tire snob, i mean, i sell the things allll day long, but on my alero (only had 15's) I had Michelin Harmony's, and on the Cobalt (18in z-rated) I have BFG g-force sports. The 05 stang GT has pzero nero's. All excellent tires.

what would give you best summer performance and cornering ability (stiff sidewall) for a stock 16" wheel?

my car wiggles back and forth like its sitting on jello if you push on it to the side.. lol

I have yoko avid t4 these are the best tires that I have ever owned. "some one " ;) told me that they grip very well at high speed in corners. think I paid $120 each installed. I am on stock 16" wheels

I highly recommend Yokohama Advan 235/40ZR17. If you have a spare set of rims for the winter. Very high grip rating and excellent braking ability.

I recommend avoiding anything made in China, unless you like blowouts.
