Yeah, a cap is pretty much useless in MOST cases. They are nifty for a few other things though.
How much power are you running? What amp? Are you currently having any voltage drops or dimming?

What exactly is a Cap?
capacitor. its like a second battery kind of. Helps stop dimming and too much power draw from the battery. if your lights arent dimming when your using your system you dont need it.

im pulling 1000 watts with 4 gauge wire...it worked fine until i put my underglow in...now after like 10 min of playing with or without the underglow on my low voltage light comes on but my lights dont dim and i figured a capacitor would do the trick

a cap won't make that much of a difference, you need a new battery. get an optima

Still a basic acid battery. You want to get dry cell technology

get a bigger alt
are alts universal or do i need a certain one that fits our engine?

The Optima Yellow tops run about 150. Thats a good price. I have heard of people paying 180 or near 200 but Pawzbear got her one for cheap. Like 80 bux or something...How much was it again pawz

universal will fit with mods to bracket but it is easier to take your alt off and take it to a shop and have it rewound to produce more amperage
i have seen alt producing 100 amps at idle
consider our cars only produce 105 at full load( everthing on) which is hardly ever seen

depends on where you go and the person doing it
i got quoted like 75 to 100 dollars but that was a while back
