Just picked up one of these for 100 bucks!

I need a nice amp to run it decently. I don't want too much of a boom. Anyone want to give me suggestions (or ebay links:rolleyes2: ) to where I can find something to run it right?

My headunit (If it helps) is http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Support/CarAudioVideo/Source/CD-Players/ci.DEH-P3900MP.Support

I've got a Scoshe Wiring kit to handle up to 1400 Watts. So I should be fine. Who wants to suggest the Power source?

Appreciate it.

wow, I eat breath and sleep audio, i haven't seen this before, the specs look good and it's a nice bandpass set for a change. search e-bay for a rockford p-300.1 there 3-5 years old but they gor for like $100 get the bass knob if you can find it too. i put one in a buddies car on a jl in a ported box. it was AMAZING he got it for $100 at a local shop.

3 hundo watts, eh? if you listen to metal (and i assume you do) that'll give you a nice thump that'll vibrate your back window a little.

I say go with a decent 400W amp. no reason to absolutely push the thing to its limits, if you have a stock system otherwise, it'll massively overpower the rest of the speakers, if you go too much higher.

....unless you want that...

How'd You know I listen to Metal?

and If it's rated for 300, shouldn't that be the amp you put on it?

Hate to burst the bubble, but your not going to like that setup for metal.

Its widely known fact that bandpass boxes provide a narrow band of greater efficiency. In other words theres going to be some note which are WAY louder than others.

I would search for a Kicker kx300.1 should be about $100-80 used on flea bay. Its a tad bit under rated so you will have some head room.

^Doh. didn't know that about those boxes. meh.. its a start for him...

its rated at 300RMS (1000max if i remember correctly) so technically you can go as high as 1000, for only for a thump or two. to be safe, i'd go with 300.

and i think i remembered that your a metal fan from other music threads. (that and you look like the type. ) http://www.feebleminds-gifs.com/smiley-faces-84.gif

you know whats wierd? i would never change my stock setups form my Alero or my Saturn....i think they are better than ANY other car maker

1000 watts max doesnt mean it can hold 1000 WRMS even for a bump or two. its a theoretical maximum current it can take. Like some amps claim 1400 watts MAX. like they hit that amount

On that Amp Ryan, the remote hook up looks a bit diferent. All I have for the remote wire is a blue wire coming off my deck. Would I need special connectors for that? or would it just work that I wrap the wire around a screw and tighten it down?

Ryan from Ohio

You just strip the wire bare and put it into the hole and tighten the screw on top of the wire.

For 300 WRMS that amp and price is hard to beat. Good solid amp.

Glad to hear.

Still working with the seller on the amp situation.

On a side note, this box has a Lighting system prewired into it. requiring a 12v Power source. Could I tap into the remote wire to have it light up with the bass hits?

Just a little update here.

I've got the amp and am Hoping to wire it tomorrow depending on the weather, I picked up a Wiring kit able to handle up to 1400 Watts, Just to leave lots of head room.

I've got the Remote Wires, RCA's the Main power wire, the ground and everything. I don't have any Speaker wire to go to the Sub, But I'll pick up some nice stuff that can hold some decent current.

From there, Is there anything else I need? And it it just basicly plug it all in?

Also, The Amp came with a Bass Controller, but my Headunit has that programmed in. Would I still need to hook up that bass controller? or would the Headunit be fine?

The headunit wont control the bass controller for the amp so I would use it. add them deebeezzz lol.

Up under the dash from the interior theres a HUGE bundle of wires that come through. I just put a slit in the rubber and ran my power thru it by itself.

i found it easier to put a coat hanger in through from the passanger compartment, bend it so you can grab it w/ pliers from the engine side, firmly crimp the coat hanger around the end inch (or so) of wire, then go back into the passanger compartment, pull slowly until its "tight" then one quick yank, should pop it through the grommet.

...if you haven't got it yet....

meadus101
11-02-2008, 08:12 PM
I did it. Thanks for your help guys.

Took half a roll of tape around the wire and hauled it down through.

I've got all the wires run, just not hooked up, Except for the remote and RCA's.

Need to pick up some Speaker wire (10g??) and Mount the Amp on the enclosure, then wire what I can in here, then finish the install. Hoping to do all that tomorrow.

speaking of which... does anyone know where to find some decent speaker wire? a good price, decent length ~14ga?? PREFERABLY different colors (silver/blue, red/black etc) i hate having to find the tiny writing on a wire to tell if its the +/-

monoprice.com has a decent price on 100ft of 16ga.... (like $11) but the downside is its $9 shipping. makes me wish there were more wire stores in wny. (except for RS, cuz we don't carry CRAP for wire)

For esthetics I should ditch the emergency kit and the Booster cables, and maybe the snow shovel.

But this is Canada. I'm not stupid.

tuck them under the carpet as much as possible. just make it look neater.

and yes, i would keep all the emergency stuff. unpredictable weather over rules aesthetics.

meadus101

They're hidden a bit better now, that was the first part it was functioning. I'm going to hide them completely eventually.

You can also see the rust hole under the hood latch.
Wonder how much that's going to cost me to fix?
