HE3? i'd say its a decent start. (doh, after relooking, it looks like they are the same as mine... just 2" bigger)
i have 2xHE2's (10") and they pound pretty decent. its by no means a "high end" sub... but they do their job well. DVC 400W Max per coil
i've had these for 2 or 3 years now, and they work pretty good for me.
and i paid $100 a piece, so yes... its a deal.

check fosgate's website.
or just search for "fosgate he2 12inch "
i have mine running off a 1400W lanzar amp. supposedly its suppose to do 350W per channel (since its 4 channels) RMS, i'm guessing somewhere in the 175W region... so that'd be 350W rms per sub.

im looking around to see if any1 wants to pay 275 for em (box included) the box for them is a lot deeper then most boxes. and i confirmed, they are 800w a piece, 1600 between the two. when the guy i bought them from suggested i buy them for 100. i half shit myself. n i said hmmm....yeah- that sounds reasonable. ha HA

Just got them hooked up today!! damn these are nice. and they turned out being free. i called the lady back and said i didnt have the money so i was on the way to return them, and she said if i did some work for her then i could just have em. and shabam. but anyway..
They hit real hard, but it rattles the hell out of my trunk lid and the 6x9s. Any suggestions on how to get a cleaner bass? (besides the dynomat)

how do those sound bmw?
I'm lookin for a sub (or two) that'll produce as much high bass as it does low bass.. im tired of subs that literally knock my rear view mirror off cause of high bass.. but doesnt produce the low gut jiggling bass that some songs have.. and when you do find a sub that'll shake your ass.. it sounds like its gonna have a stroke producing higher bass notes lol
and note to self: stay away from walmart when shopping for audio.
suggest me something!

-Well, the bigger the sub's cone, the lower the frequency it will reach. Ive had experience with Kicker, Premier, and Punch. Of these three, my favorite have been my current punch's.
-I didnt like the premier (IMPP) much because it wouldn't reach the high frequencies very well and the power level, I think, was overrated. Popped it with mu current amp and supposedly it was 500W RMS.
-The kickers(L5) sound quality was pretty bad. It sounded fake and unclear (best words I can come up with).
-And well the punch's I have right now (P1), don't have much sound quantity, but I like the quality.
-I also used to have the same sub this thread is about, and it sounded pretty good as well.
-Also, the enclosure is very important when you are going to install subs. When I first got my P1's I got had small truck enclosures, and it didnt sound nearly as loud as after I got the bigger enclosure.

I think they handle everything pretty well. but how high of frequency do you want. im running a LPF of around 80 I believe.

You just missed a set of 12" Kickers for $99. Slap them in a SEALED box and you will get the sound you are looking for.

And I'm surprised Ryan didn't mention it, but your enclosure has as much to do with how the subs hit as the subs themselves... If you have a vented box tuned higher than it won't carry those lows you're looking for... Best to get range over loud would be properly sized sealed box to fit a sub fit for a sealed enclosure.
Midgear
12-02-2008, 05:37 PM
so.. a properly sized -sealed- enclosure.. with a sub that was -ment- to be installed in said -sealed- enclosure.. of "proper" size.
define "proper size"
cherrington17
12-02-2008, 06:05 PM
depends on the sub....
the bigger the sub, the bigger the box it needs. its all about equaling out the pressure behind as opposed to the power its pushing out.
i'm sure the audio guys will pick that apart. its much more complicated, but thats the lay-mans version.
Ryan from Ohio
12-02-2008, 06:59 PM
"proper" would be a box fitting inside the manufacturer specs for the sub.
Midgear
12-02-2008, 08:43 PM
so a bigger box for a bigger trunk space is absolutely meaningless.. what matters is the enclosure size that the subwoofer recommends ?
CarGodz
12-02-2008, 08:55 PM
You got it ;)
Subs should be put in a box that suits their specs... some subs big power high end spl subs aren't suited for a sealed enclosure at all.

when your from where im from you gotta get it how you live. everyb-BOOOOOOOMMM BOOOMM BOOOOMM BOOOOOMMM bassssss
edit: another thing i forgot to add about subwoofers, is theyre actually good for your health! Ive been smoking cigarettes for quite some time and over that time theres been a lot of build up in my lungs. Since i have had the subwoofers hooked up- theyve rattles my lungs so much that they are knocking everything loose. and as a result ive been coughing up a ludacris amount of crap. Several days later i can breathe easier then i have been able to in about a year! HELL YEAH SUBS

and your avatar is beneath the massacre? lol
i love bass as well but with a 10" you arent going to get the range of notes you want....go with a 12"...you get great highs good lows and they can handle double bass like btm without a problem...its actually like a massage chair :)

If you wanna go with a BIG 10", look at the DC Sound Labs level 4XL 10"... The motor is almost the size of the sub... And you can throw 2000+ watts RMS to it as a daily driver and burp with 5000w :D
