i'm installing the B&M shift plus on an ecotec. all the FAQs have pics of the 2.4 engine where the transmission plug is quite visible and everything is identifiable. however on my 2.2 i can't find the right wires. can someone post a pic for me?

thnx

bump!

if you have a 2.2 with the b&M installed, please take a pic of the engine bay so i can see what grouping of wires you spliced into.

thnx

ecotecs have a 4t40 also right?

TO INSTALL SHIFT KIT #70380 AT TRANNY: this install was done on a 99 2.4 4speed auto.

It provides the scotch lock and male connectors you need. The switch has the wire attached, so just put that in the interior then run the wire through the gromit in the firewall, you'll see how easy that is.

this connector is found in the front of the transmission to the left of the battery, it is gray and circular, it is 2 inches in diameter. Comes off with a pinch.

the wires u are connecting is the black wire to the light blue with white stripe ( C on the plug), now the red wire you want to install to is the red wire with black stripe( D on the plug) this wire is directly underneath the light blue one, not the one to the left of it, which is another red with black stripe wire, which has a dark blue wire underneath, look at the connector with the white arrow at 9 o'clock. The letters are on the plug right near the wires you need.

settings must be selected while car is off.

On setting 1, i can easily chirp 2nd gear and it shifts firm. I would say ok for everyday driving. This setting reminds me of astandard shift for the older turbo 350 and 400.

On setting 2, I can chirp 2nd and 3rd (i tested it on the way home, marc.) this shifts hard. I would say too hard for everyday driving but good for racing.

idk who does, but you can go over to www.j-body.org and ask them?

Maybe some of them have the ecotec with the shiftplus?

Or maybe you can send B&M an email?

The connector is exactly the same on the Ecotec. What you're tapping into is the "Pressure control solenoid valve"

If you wanted to, you can also do this inside the car right under the dash at the PCM. The wires for the Ecotec are on Connector 2 (the bigger one), Pins 6 (red/blk) and 7 (lt blue/white)

my engine bay does not look like the 2.4's... i know to look for C and D wires, but the plug and wire bundle is not where the 2.4's is. under my dash there are many groups of wires and a lot of plugs. i have no idea of where to start.

pics from anyone with a 2.2?

thnx

Ok here is the picture, I believe you cant see if you have the airbox in there. I have an intake so I can see it probably more clear. Also im guessing you have the 2.2 ecotec with an automatic, kuz so far I think that B&M shift kit is for autos only(correct me if wrong); My 5-speed alero dont have a plug apart from the speed sensor and stuff, and that might me the reason you havent seen it. idk. Hope this helps.

anyone with a 2.2 auto can show me where the red/blk and lt blue/wht wires are, either under the hood or under the dash?

I guess you cant see the picture rite. By airbox I meant if you had the stock intake system, instead of me calling it a WAI or CAI. You dont have to remove the box since the plug is not underneath it. The picture shows the plug rite behind the right hand side radiator fan(looking at the engine bay of course), almost right next to the oil filter again. Also to the left of the battery, not behind it(where the box you removed is at).

Do you just splice the wires together leaving the original wires connected, or do you completely cut the old wire and connect the new one(which is connected to the shift kit)?

dood, the plug is exactly the same once you get the plug undone you splice into the same wires as the 2.4

dood, the plug isn't the same as the 2.4. i checked, nuffin like that. i dunno if my alero is funky or whatever, but there was no grey plug to be seen. i went under the dash to do it.

http://sites.google.com/site/aleromodupgrades/performance/transmission/how-to-install-bm-shiftplus-on-ld9/11.jpg?attredirects=0

the tap splices are crappy, i stripped some wires, wrapped em with the shifter's wires n taped em. there are two light blue w/white streak wires and two red w/black stripe wires, so make sure you tap the right ones. the two you are looking for are right by each other, not separated.

the plug they're talking about is on the front side of the tranny rite near the edge of the bell housing. every 4t40 tranny is the same except the bell housing and final drive. the plug is there, look better.

i've seen the pics from the 2.4, multiple pics. it's not the same in my car. i've looked in the exact spot. unless.... maybe it's under the plastic covers, but none of them looked big enough to house the plug.

doesn't matter, though, i did it under the dash by the pcm.

the plug is under and a little to the left of the throttle body. much easier and neater under the dash.
