Alrighty now, this is getting fun. Here is another for the Alero experts. Good luck.

In April, my car started a water leaking problem which has further caused an electrical problem. It does not appear to be the same water leak that forms puddles from the door.

This happens when the car is sitting still in the rain. Water somehow gets into the fuse panels and causes some shorting. Mechanics said it might be one of two things 1) windshield was replaced and not sealed properly or 2) the evaporator pan drain tube is clogged. I have had the car about 18 months, so I doubt it is the windshield. I did hydroplane into a muddy median in Feb. Most likely cause. Where is this drain tube and how can I clear it?

After allowing things to dry out, everything returns to normal. Today was different.

First thing I noticed was my stereo was not making noise. Radio and CD appeared to be playing fine, just no sound. Shortly thereafter, everything electrical quit. This includes the speedo, tach, odometer (lights up, but doesn't count), temp, gas, drive gear indicator, radio, AC, cruise, remote locks, and traction control. Car appears to run fine as long as you don't rely on any of the previous items.

I checked all they all appear ok. Any ideas?

Thanks ahead of time.
Tim

If your car has a sunroof, thats what it is! The water comes in throught there.

under the hood there is a fuse block that controls alot of stuff at a time with a big fuse check that and i would get that alero in the shop ASAP

No sunroof here.

I am sure this doesn't have anything to do with my alternator. Car seems to run fine except for anything electronic on the dashboard.

Any idea which fuse? I checked all the fuses I could visually check. I am not sure about the other items whether they are fuses or relays.

no, no , no im not saying its your alternator. i thought it was my alt. because it was doing the same thing it did before it went. but then i realized that it was water in the fuse box. really u have no sunroof? i do, thats where i think the h2o is coming in from, but if you dont have one. then that makes me wonder. My Driver floor was wet how about yours?

No wet floor either. Either it is leaking just enough to short my stuff out or I haven't been paying close enough attention. Could be either though. I still have the problem of all my gauges being out though. While I don't mind my odometer racking up 120 miles per day, I don't enjoy two hours in the car with wind and my voice (karioke (sp?) anyone?) as my only company. Anyone have any information on that?
