Help With Result Of Egr Install

Hey guys, I had an engine code from GM saying my EGR was clogged. Picked up a new gasket and then went to a scrap yard and picked up a EGR valve from a 3400 Montana(said it was the same engine). Installed it and turned on my car and the engine light is still on. What do I do now??? Go back to the rapist dealership and get my engine diagnosed for another $80(CDN)? HELP!

If your car is running correctly then you still need to reset the DTC in the computer. This can be done by waiting for 40 successful start cycles or by purchasing a handheld scanner from PEP Boys, etc. These ususally will help diagnose diagnostic trouble codes from the powertrain module as well as reset the check engine light. I purchased mine from OBD2.com. It was $200US for all vehicles. All you need is a laptop or pc close enough to reach your car. It's a great program. It's only diagnostic. The developer is always adding updates and even includes some body control module diagnostics.

Just diconnect your battery for 5 minutes and that should get ride of the light.
